Synopsis Multiple Reactions Galore, Volume I by : Kal Renganathan Sharma

In this day and age, the chemical process engineer strives to make products at a lower cost, with less pollution, while using a variety of raw materials. When a new product or process is found to be successful, more plants are built either by retrofit or existing similar plants, or by construction of large plants. Engineers involved in the scaling of new plants will need a solid understanding of the issues involved in multiple reactions, which can happen in a series, in parallel, and can be reversible. Computer software can be used provide detailed treatments of these reactions and readers of Multiple Reactions Galore will learn how to treat intermediate products during a complex reaction scheme. This two-volume set discusses the engineering design issues involved when multiple reactions occur in the considered process. Design issues such as product distribution, economic analysis and profitability as well as the sensitivity of important quantities such as yield, selectivity to rate constant ratios, will be presented in detail. The author explains how to use Excel spreadsheets to seek numerical solutions when closed form analytical solutions are not possible. The author also explores the importance of by-product and by-product yield, which is often overlooked in traditional reaction engineering textbooks.

Synopsis Galore by : Michael Crummey

Sprawling and intimate, stark and fantastical, Galore is a novel about the power of stories to shape and sustain us. This is Michael Crummey’s most ambitious and accomplished work to date. An intricate family saga and love story spanning two centuries, Galore is a portrait of the improbable medieval world that was rural Newfoundland, a place almost too harrowing and extravagant to be real. Remote and isolated, exposed to savage extremes of climate and fate, the people of Paradise Deep persist in a realm where the line between the everyday and the otherworldly is impossible to distinguish. Propelled by the disputes and alliances, grievances and trade-offs that bind the Sellers and Devine families through generations, Galore is alive with singular characters, and an uncommon insight into the complexities of human nature.

Synopsis Sometimes I Lie by : Alice Feeney

My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me: 1. I’m in a coma. 2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore. 3. Sometimes I lie. Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can’t move. She can’t speak. She can’t open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn’t remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from twenty years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it's the truth?

Synopsis Why Chemical Reactions Happen by : James Keeler

This supplemental text for a freshman chemistry course explains the formation of ionic bonds in solids and the formation of covalent bonds in atoms and molecules, then identifies the factors that control the rates of reactions and describes more complicated types of bonding. Synopsis Multiple Reactions Galore by : Kal Renganathan Sharma

Better understanding of the kinetics of reversible reactions can lead to design of high temperature superconductors, reclamation of monomers from waste tires, sustainable production of chemicals, aminoacids, drugs, plastic products, rubber tires and nylon intermediates from sugar. Quantitative and qualitative treatments are provided. Results from computer simulations of cyclic deracemization reactions, free radical decomposition of hydrogen sulfide reactions, Hoffman-La-rocuhe L Dopa process, preparation of CAMP and diPAMP phosphines from methyl ester, stereo isomer products of propane diol from l, d lactic acid by DYKAT scheme of reactions, Calvin cycle are discussed. Methods of Laplace transforms, state space representation and eigen matrix, Runge-Kutta numerical solution to system of simultaneous ODEs, Taylor series and Vieta's substitution are used. Dimensionless species concentrations and reaction rate constant ratios are studied. Products' distribution are plotted as graphs. Reactions in circle scheme is treated without violation of laws of thermodynamics. Spontaneous circular reactions may violate the principle of microscopic reversibility. Criteria for occurrence of subcritical damped oscillations are derived. Examples are presented from Nobel lectures of Krebs, Negishi, Knowles and Calvin. Cross-over, gestation period, maxima, asymptotic limits, skewness in concentration -time curves, runaway conditions, underdamped oscillations, low frequency oscillations are illustrated.

What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of the night her family was forever altered. Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents could devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue loving her.
