Synopsis Vocational Psychology and Character Analysis by : Harry Levi Hollingworth
The first edition of Vocational Psychology appeared in 1916; it aspired, within its narrow limits, to discuss mental measurement and to give illustrative tests and norms; to consider the formulable principles of vocational guidance; and to outline possibilities in the use of psychological methods in the selection and placement of workers. In 1922, under the title Judging Human Character, a supplementary volume was published, which surveyed some of the more recent developments, especially those concerned with the methods of appraising personal traits and qualities. Traditional methods were criticised and improvements suggested in the technique of applying and interpreting them. An endeavor was also made to communicate a general understanding of the principles underlying the methods of mental measurement. This revised edition not only combines the materials of the two earlier volumes, but seeks also to incorporate, in survey fashion, the more recent developments in the field of vocational psychology. Several entirely new topics have also been introduced, in the form of added chapters. Bibliographies are provided, in topical form, so that readers particularly interested in any of the special fields may be guided in their further study.
