Synopsis Mechanical Properties in Progressive Mechanically Processed Metallic Materials by : Radim Kocich

The demands on innovative materials given by the ever-increasing requirements of contemporary industry require the use of high-performance engineering materials. The properties of materials and alloys are a result of their structures, which can primarily be affected by the preparation/production process. However, the production of materials featuring high levels of the required properties without the necessity to use costly alloying elements or time- and money-demanding heat treatment technologies typically used to enhance the mechanical properties of metallic materials (especially specific strength) still remains a challenge. The introduction of thermomechanical treatment represented a breakthrough in grain refinement, consequently leading to significant improvement of the mechanical properties of metallic materials. Contrary to conventional production technologies, the main advantage of such treatment is the possibility to precisely control structural phenomena that affect the final mechanical and utility properties. Thermomechanical treatment can only decrease the grain size to the scale of microns. However, further research devoted to pushing materials’ performance beyond the limits led to the introduction of severe plastic deformation (SPD) methods providing producers with the ability to acquire ultra-fine-grained and nanoscaled metallic materials with superior mechanical properties. SPD methods can be performed with the help of conventional forming equipment; however, many newly designed processes have also been introduced.

Synopsis Mechanical and Creep Behavior of Advanced Materials by : Indrajit Charit

This collection commemorates the occasion of the honorary symposium that celebrated the 75th birthday and lifelong contributions of Professor K.L. Murty. The topics cover the present status and recent advances in research areas in which he made seminal contributions. The volume includes articles on a variety of topics such as high-temperature deformation behaviors of materials (elevated temperature creep, tensile, fatigue, superplasticity) and their micromechanistic interpretation, understanding mechanical behavior of HCP metals/alloys using crystallographic texture, radiation effects on deformation and creep of materials, mechanical behavior of nanostructured materials, fracture and fracture mechanisms, development and application of small-volume mechanical testing techniques, and general structure-property correlations.

Synopsis An Introduction to Chemistry by : Peter B. Moore

This publication is an entry-level textbook designed to meet the needs of college students who learned some chemistry in their high school years, but not enough to prepare them for advanced courses in chemistry, or to satisfy the chemistry prerequisite for courses they might want to take in other scientific disciplines. The history of chemistry is emphasized to an unusual degree here primarily to give the narrative a storyline, but its historical emphasis has an important secondary benefit. Much of the vocabulary chemists use to describe chemical phenomena today emerged early in the development of the discipline, when their understanding of them was still in a primitive state. As such, the persistence of these words and the concepts behind them makes sense only in the light of history.

Synopsis Metalworking by : ASM International. Handbook Committee

Semiatin (Air Force Research Laboratory, Materials and Manufacturing Directorate) collects recent work detailing bulk forming methods (such as forging, extrusion, drawing, and rolling), where three-dimensional deformation produces a new shape with significant change in the cross- section of thickness of a material.
