Synopsis Measurement of Jets Produced in Top Quark Events Using the Emu Final State with 2 B-tagged Jets in Pp Collisions at 8 TeV with the ATLAS Detector by : Jacquelyn Kay Brosamer

The transverse momentum and multiplicity of jets produced in top quark events are measured using 20.3 inverse fb of pp collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 8 tev. Jets are selected from top events requiring an opposite-charge $e\mu$ pair and two b-tagged jets in the final state. The data are corrected to obtain the particle-level fiducial cross section for additional jets with rank 1-4, where rank=1 is the leading additional jet. These distributions are used to obtain the extra jet multiplicity as a function of minimum jet pt threshold. The results are compared with several next to leading order Monte Carlo generators. The resulting measurements can be used to tune Monte Carlo QCD modelling and may also reduce associated modelling uncertainties for LHC top quark physics measurements.

Synopsis Measurement of the Top-quark Mass in All-jets $t\bar{t}$ Events in Pp Collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ by :

The mass of the top quark is measured using a sample of $t\bar{t}$ candidate events with at least six jets in the final state. The sample is selected from data collected with the CMS detector in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV in 2011 and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 3.54 inverse femtobarns. The mass is reconstructed for each event employing a kinematic fit of the jets to a $t\bar{t}$ hypothesis. The top-quark mass is measured to be 173.49 $\pm$ 0.69 (stat.) $\pm$ 1.21 (syst.) GeV. A combination with previously published measurements in other decay modes by CMS yields a mass of 173.54 $\pm$ 0.33 (stat.) $\pm$ 0.96 (syst.) GeV.

Synopsis Measurement of the Jet Mass in Highly Boosted T-tbar Events from Pp Collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ by :

The first measurement of the jet mass m[jet] of top quark jets produced in t t-bar events from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV is reported for the jet with the largest transverse momentum pt in highly boosted hadronic top quark decays. The data sample, collected with the CMS detector, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The measurement is performed in the lepton+jets channel in which the products of the semileptonic decay t to bW with W to l nu where l is an electron or muon, are used to select t t-bar events with large Lorentz boosts. The products of the fully hadronic decay t to bW with W to q q'-bar are reconstructed using a single Cambridge-Aachen jet with distance parameter R=1.2, and pt>400 GeV. The t t-bar cross section as a function of m[jet] is unfolded at the particle level and is used to test the modelling of highly boosted top quark production. The peak position of the m[jet] distribution is sensitive to the top quark mass m[t], and the data are used to extract a value of m[t] to assess this sensitivity.

Synopsis Measurement of the W Boson Helicity Fractions in the Decays of Top Quark Pairs to Lepton+jets Final States Produced in Pp Collisions at Sqrt(s) by :

The W boson helicity fractions from top quark decays in t-tbar events are measured using data from proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. The data were collected in 2012 with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.8 inverse-femtobarns. Events are reconstructed with either one muon or one electron, along with four jets in the final state, with two of the jets being identified as originating from b quarks. The measured helicity fractions from both channels are combined, yielding F[0] = 0.681 +/- 0.012 (stat) +/- 0.023 (syst), F[L] = 0.323 +/- 0.008 (stat) +/- 0.014 (syst), and F[R] = -0.004 +/- 0.005 (stat) +/- 0.014 (syst) for the longitudinal, left-, and right-handed components of the helicity, respectively. These measurements of the W boson helicity fractions are the most accurate to date and they agree with the predictions from the standard model.

Synopsis Measurement of the Single Top Quark Cross Section in the Lepton Plus Jets Final State in Proton-Antiproton Collisions at a Center of Mass Energy of 1.96 TeV Using the CDF II Detector by :

We present a measurement of the single top quark cross section in the lepton plus jets final state using an integrated luminosity corresponding to 7.5 fb-1 of p\bar p collision data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The single top candidate events are identified by the signature of a charged lepton, large missing transverse energy, and two or three jets with at least one of them identified as originating from a bottom quark. A new Monte Carlo generator POWHEG is used to model the single top quark production processes, which include s-channel, t-channel, and Wt-channel. A neural network multivariate method is exploited to discriminate the single top quark signal from the comparatively large backgrounds. We measure a single top production cross section of $3.04^{+0.57}_{-0.53} (\mathrm{stat.~+~syst.})$ pb assuming $m_{\rm top}=172.5$~GeV/$c^2$. In addition, we extract the CKM matrix element value $

Synopsis Measurements of the Top Quark Pair Production Cross Section in Lepton + Jets Final States Using a Topological Multivariate Technique as Well as Lifetime B-Tagging InProton - Anti-proton Collisions at S**(1/2) by : Tobias F. Golling

Two alternative measurements of the t{bar t} production cross section at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV in proton-antiproton collisions in the lepton+jets channel are presented. The t{bar t} production cross section is extracted by combining the kinematic event information in a multivariate discriminant. The measurement yields {sigma}{sub p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} + x} = 5.13{sub -1.57}{sup +1.76}(stat){sub -1.10}{sup +0.96}(syst) {+-} 0.33 (lumi) pb in the muon+jets channel, using 229.1 pb{sup -1}, and in the combination with the electron+jets channel 226.3 pb{sup -1} {sigma}{sub p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} + x} = 6.60{sub -1.28}{sup +1.37}(stat){sub -1.11}{sup +1.25}(syst) {+-} 0.43 (lumi) pb. The second measurement presented reconstructs explicitly secondary vertices to d lifetime b-tagging. The measurement combines the muon+jets and the electron+jets channel, using 158.4 pb{sup -1} and 168.8 pb{sup -1}, respectively: {sigma}{sub p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} + x} = 8.24{sub -1.25}{sup +1.34}(stat){sub -1.63}{sup +1.89}(syst) {+-} 0.54 (lumi) pb.

^ 74 GeV and |y| 2.4; the b jets must contain a B hadron. The measurement has significant statistics up to p T ∼ O(TeV). Advanced methods of unfolding are performed to extract the signal. It is found that fixed-order calculations with underlying event describe the measurement well.
