Synopsis Advances in Mathematics and Applications by : Carlile Lavor
This book celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Scientific Computing (IMECC) of the University of Campinas, Brazil, by offering reviews of selected research developed at one of the most prestigious mathematics institutes in Latin America. Written by senior professors at the IMECC, it covers topics in pure and applied mathematics and statistics ranging from differential geometry, dynamical systems, Lie groups, and partial differential equations to computational optimization, mathematical physics, stochastic process, time series, and more. A report on the challenges and opportunities of research in applied mathematics - a highly active field of research in the country - and highlights of the Institute since its foundation in 1968 completes this historical volume, which is unveiled in the same year that the International Mathematical Union (IMU) names Brazil as a member of the Group V of countries with the most relevant contributions in mathematics.

Synopsis Advanced Mathematics for Applications by : Andrea Prosperetti
The partial differential equations that govern scalar and vector fields are the very language used to model a variety of phenomena in solid mechanics, fluid flow, acoustics, heat transfer, electromagnetism and many others. A knowledge of the main equations and of the methods for analyzing them is therefore essential to every working physical scientist and engineer. Andrea Prosperetti draws on many years' research experience to produce a guide to a wide variety of methods, ranging from classical Fourier-type series through to the theory of distributions and basic functional analysis. Theorems are stated precisely and their meaning explained, though proofs are mostly only sketched, with comments and examples being given more prominence. The book structure does not require sequential reading: each chapter is self-contained and users can fashion their own path through the material. Topics are first introduced in the context of applications, and later complemented by a more thorough presentation.

Synopsis Advances in Food Process Engineering Research and Applications by : Stavros Yanniotis
This is the second publication stemming from the International Congress on Engineering in Food, the first being Food Engineering Interfaces, based on the last ICEF10. The theme of ICEF 11, held in Athens, Greece in May 2011, is “Food Process Engineering in a Changing World.” The conference explored the ways food engineering contributes to the solutions of vital problems in a world of increasing population and complexity that is under the severe constraints of limited resources of raw materials, energy, and environment. The book, comprised of 32 chapters, features an interdisciplinary focus, including food materials science, engineering properties of foods, advances in food process technology, novel food processes, functional foods, food waste engineering, food process design and economics, modeling food safety and quality, and innovation management.

Synopsis Advanced Mathematics for Engineers with Applications in Stochastic Processes by : Aliakbar Montazer Haghighi
Topics in advanced mathematics for engineers, probability and statistics typically span three subject areas, are addressed in three separate textbooks and taught in three different courses in as many as three semesters. Due to this arrangement, students taking these courses have had to shelf some important and fundamental engineering courses until much later than is necessary. This practice has generally ignored some striking relations that exist between the seemingly separate areas of statistical concepts, such as moments and estimation of Poisson distribution parameters. On one hand, these concepts commonly appear in stochastic processes -- for instance, in measures on effectiveness in queuing models. On the other hand, they can also be viewed as applied probability in engineering disciplines -- mechanical, chemical, and electrical, as well as in engineering technology. There is obviously, an urgent need for a textbook that recognises the corresponding relationships between the various areas and a matching cohesive course that will see through to their fundamental engineering courses as early as possible. This book is designed to achieve just that. Its seven chapters, while retaining their individual integrity, flow from selected topics in advanced mathematics such as complex analysis and wavelets to probability, statistics and stochastic processes.

Synopsis Fractional Calculus in Medical and Health Science by : Devendra Kumar
This book covers applications of fractional calculus used for medical and health science. It offers a collection of research articles built into chapters on classical and modern dynamical systems formulated by fractional differential equations describing human diseases and how to control them. The mathematical results included in the book will be helpful to mathematicians and doctors by enabling them to explain real-life problems accurately. The book will also offer case studies of real-life situations with an emphasis on describing the mathematical results and showing how to apply the results to medical and health science, and at the same time highlighting modeling strategies. The book will be useful to graduate level students, educators and researchers interested in mathematics and medical science.

Synopsis Handbook of Research on Advances and Applications of Fuzzy Sets and Logic by : Broumi, Said
Fuzzy logic, which is based on the concept of fuzzy set, has enabled scientists to create models under conditions of imprecision, vagueness, or both at once. As a result, it has now found many important applications in almost all sectors of human activity, becoming a complementary feature and supporter of probability theory, which is suitable for modelling situations of uncertainty derived from randomness. Fuzzy mathematics has also significantly developed at the theoretical level, providing important insights into branches of traditional mathematics like algebra, analysis, geometry, topology, and more. With such widespread applications, fuzzy sets and logic are an important area of focus in mathematics. The Handbook of Research on Advances and Applications of Fuzzy Sets and Logic studies recent theoretical advances of fuzzy sets and numbers, fuzzy systems, fuzzy logic and their generalizations, extensions, and more. This book also explores the applications of fuzzy sets and logic applied to science, technology, and everyday life to further provide research on the subject. This book is ideal for mathematicians, physicists, computer specialists, engineers, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students who are looking to learn more about fuzzy sets, fuzzy logic, and their applications.
