In 1816, he resigned this position because of ill health, and subsequently taught and/or served churches in Byfield and Saugus, Mass., and Wethersfield, Conn. He took two long visits to Charleston, S.C. This biography, by his brother, concludes with a genealogical survey of the Emerson family.
