A large reliance for facts was naturally placed upon Mrs. Chapin; but, while on the way to obtain these, the news of her sudden death was received. It is believed, however, that the leading facts in the life of this truly great man and almost peerless orator will be found in the following pages; and the author de sires to return thanks to the many friends who have.
