Synopsis Lex Orandi by : Abraham Owen Smoot Professor of Philosophy Daniel Graham
This book compares the texts of the Traditional rites and the Novus Ordo rites for the seven sacraments, so we can offer substantial reasons for choosing one rite over the other. The plan of the book is simple. For each sacrament, we describe patterns of changes in the texts; then, we lay the texts side by side with comments so you can see particular changes and see the patterns. Finally, we end the comparison of each sacrament by offering some conclusions. Throughout this book, we use the term Traditional to distinguish the Roman Catholic rites before 1962. The authors of the rites promulgated after 1968 use the term Novus Ordo, translated New Order, to describe their new rites. An objective comparison of the texts clearly shows the differences. As St. Thomas Aquinas observed, "What is objectively real is objectively true." The differences in the two rites are objectively real.

Synopsis Sacramental Orders by : Susan K. Wood
This study of bishops, presbyters, and deacons identifies four conceptualizations of the Church influencing the relationship between ordained ministry and the Church: a monarchical and hierarchical conceptualization; a eucharistic, collegial model representing the communion of particular churches; the priest, prophet, and king motif that structures the concept of the Church as the people of God; and a theology of the Church as a sacrament of Christ and ordained ministry as a sacrament of the Church. It examines the 1990 ordination rites and discusses the sacramentality of episcopal ordination, the identity of the presbyterate, and questions concerning the diaconate.

Synopsis Theologia Prima by : David W. Fagerberg
"Liturgical Theology" is often a convenient label for any theology that has loosely to do with worship or Eucharist. In this innovative book, David Fagerberg distinguishes liturgical theology from a general theology of worship. He proposes two defining attributes of liturgical theology: (1) "lex orandi": It is manifested in the Church's historical rites. (2) "theologia prima": It is theology done by the liturgical community. Theologia Prima is a thorough revision of Dr. Fagerberg's groundbreaking, What Is Liturgical Theology? A Study in Methodology (1992). It contains three new chapters as well as well as more anecdotal material derived from Dr. Fagerberg's extensive experience as a teacher and theologian.

Synopsis Context and Text by : Kevin W. Irwin
One of the most influential works in the debate over the concept and definitions of liturgical theology, Context and Text by Monsignor Kevin W. Irwin is now available in a completely rewritten, new edition. In light of the historical, theological, and pastoral mandates of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Context and Text is both a proposal for and an example of an investigation of the Church's liturgical praxis from a liturgical-theological perspective. This second edition, which includes an expanded introduction, covers: · new liturgical and ecclesial contexts resulting from newly promulgated liturgies · further research in methodfor liturgical studies · consideration for changes in the cultural contexts in which people celebrate the liturgy. Besides brand-new chapters on time and sacramentality, and additions to the chapter on the arts, this edition also considers the “ongoing ‘texts and contexts’ of the liturgy as always a new event in the life and ongoing discussion of liturgical theology within Christianity.
