Synopsis Leukocyte Typing II by : Ellis L. Reinherz
The Second International Workshop on Human Leukocyte Differentia- tion Antigens was held in Boston, September 17-20, 1984. More than 350 people interested in leukocyte differentiation agreed to exchange reagents and participate in this joint venture. All in all, in excess of 400 antibodies directed against surface structures on T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, and myeloid-hematopoietic stem cells were characterized. Because of the enormous quantity of serologic, biochemical, and functional data, Leuko- cyte Typing II has been divided into three volumes. These books represent the written results of workshop participants. They should be helpful to both researchers and clinicians involved in scientific endeavors dealing with these broad fields of immunobiology. To those who delve into the various sections of the volumes, it will become evident that the work speaks for itself. I am deeply indebted to the section editors, Barton F. Haynes, Volume 1, Human T Lymphocytes, Lee M. Nadler, Volume 2, Human B Lympho- cytes, and Irwin D.Bernstein, Volume 3, Human Myeloid and Hemato- poietic Cells for their major contributions in planning, executing, and summarizing the workshop, as well as council members John Hansen, Alain Bernard, Laurence Boumsell, Walter Knapp, Andrew McMichael, Cesar Milstein, and Stuart F. Schlossman. I would also like to thank the National Institutes of Health, World Health Organization, and Interna- tional Union of Immunological Societies for making this meeting possible.

Synopsis The Impact of Food Bioactives on Health by : Kitty Verhoeckx
“Infogest” (Improving Health Properties of Food by Sharing our Knowledge on the Digestive Process) is an EU COST action/network in the domain of Food and Agriculture that will last for 4 years from April 4, 2011. Infogest aims at building an open international network of institutes undertaking multidisciplinary basic research on food digestion gathering scientists from different origins (food scientists, gut physiologists, nutritionists...). The network gathers 70 partners from academia, corresponding to a total of 29 countries. The three main scientific goals are: Identify the beneficial food components released in the gut during digestion; Support the effect of beneficial food components on human health; Promote harmonization of currently used digestion models Infogest meetings highlighted the need for a publication that would provide researchers with an insight into the advantages and disadvantages associated with the use of respective in vitro and ex vivo assays to evaluate the effects of foods and food bioactives on health. Such assays are particularly important in situations where a large number of foods/bioactives need to be screened rapidly and in a cost effective manner in order to ultimately identify lead foods/bioactives that can be the subject of in vivo assays. The book is an asset to researchers wishing to study the health benefits of their foods and food bioactives of interest and highlights which in vitro/ex vivo assays are of greatest relevance to their goals, what sort of outputs/data can be generated and, as noted above, highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the various assays. It is also an important resource for undergraduate students in the ‘food and health’ arena.

Synopsis The Leucocyte Antigen Factsbook by : A. Neil Barclay
A volume in the popular FactsBook Series, the First Edition of The Leucocyte Antigen FactsBook was hugely successful. The new Second Edition has been completely revised, updated, and expanded by 65% to include new findings and up-to-date key references. The introductory chapters have also been updated, especially in terms of nomenclature, the role of the World Wide Web, and new structural data. The Leucocyte Antigen FactsBook, Second Edition contains more than 200 entries, with approximately 70 new entries, on all the molecules specifically expressed in the surface of cells of the haematopoietic system, including all characterized CD antigens, antigen receptors, MHC antigens, adhesion molecules, and cytokine receptors. This FactsBook will be of enormous value to immunologists, cell biologists, biochemists, and endocrinologists.Key Features* Completely up-to-date* Revised and expanded to include over 70 new entries* More than 200 entries in total, plus additional introductory material* New structural data* New nomenclature for CD and related molecules covered

Synopsis Progress in Hodgkin's Disease by : G. W. Richter
International Review of Experimental Pathology, Volume 33: Progress in Hodgkin's Disease summarizes the progress made in the diagnosis and understanding of the pathogenesis of Hodgkin's disease. The first half of this volume deals with diagnostic aspects, whereas the second half focuses on recent developments in the understanding of the pathogenesis of Hodgkin's disease. The book opens with a chapter on the differential diagnosis between Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, and provides guidelines on how to deal with the grey areas between these two groups of diseases. Separate chapters follow on the criteria for a prognostically relevant histological grading of the most common subtype of Hodgkin's disease; data on the nodular lymphocyte predominance subtype of Hodgkin's disease; and the various reagents used to define the immunophenotype of Reed-Sternberg cells. Subsequent chapters deal with potential mediators of lymphocyte agglutination to Reed-Sternberg cells; immunological alterations in Hodgkin's disease; molecular genetic studies into the pathogenesis of Hodgkin's disease; and results of studies on Hodgkin cell lines. This book provides data that go beyond those covered in textbooks in pathology and hematology and should be of interest to all pathologists and clinicians dealing with the diagnosis and management of Hodgkin's disease, as well as to lymphoma researchers.

Synopsis Cellular Immunology LabFax by :
LABFAX volumes are purpose-designed data reference books for practicing scientists. Each book presents the key information for a major subject in one place and so saves hours of searching. The authors and editors of each LABFAX volume have searched the original literature for the accurate data they know the subject specialist needs.Cellular Immunology Labfax is a detailed compendium of information on the tissues and cells of the immune system, cell lines and hybridomas, antigens and receptors, the major histocompatibility complex, soluble immunoregulatory molecules, in vivo procedures, important features of species used in immunological research, and much more. The contents of Cellular Immunology Labfax have been carefully chosen to complement the data presented in Immunochemistry Labfax. It is therefore the companion volume to this text.
