Three years ago the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Silesia and the Faculty of Law of the University of Leicester embarked on a joint research and academic co-operation programme with the support of the British Council in Warsaw. The programme resulted in the organisation of two academic conferences, one in Leicester and one in Katowice. This book is the tangible result of these conferences. The content of the book reflects the wide-ranging nature of the collaboration between the two Faculties. Environmental law, public international law, intellectual and cultural property law are the main areas that are covered, but certain issues of constitutional law, European law, social law, company law and legal education are also addressed. The main strength of this book is found in its breadth of coverage and the detailed examination of key issues such as the rights of minorities; the transboundary movement of waste in Europe and the environmental problems which it creates; the theft and illegal exportation of cultural property; and the convergence of the droit d'auteur and copyright traditions.

In this set of interdisciplinary essays leading scholars discuss the future of the Rule of Law, a concept whose meaning and import has become ever more topical and elusive. Historically the term denoted the idea of 'government limited by law'. It has also come to be equated, more broadly, with certain goods suggested by the idea of legality as such, including the preservation of human dignity and other individual and social benefits predicated upon or conducive to a rule-based social order. But in both its narrow and broader senses the Rule of Law remains a much contested concept. These essays seek to capture the main areas and levels of controversy by 'relocating' the Rule of Law not just at the philosophical level, but also in its main contemporary arenas of application - both national, and increasingly, supranational and international.

The aim of this bibliography, comprising more than 6,000 entries, is to facilitate and promote the research and writing of legal scholars, students and human rights activists in the fields of ethnic cleansing, genocide and sexual violence during national and international armed conflicts. It provides an overview of carefully selected socio-legal materials published in English and other European languages on ethnic cleansing, genocide and sexual violence during armed conflict in the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. This timely project, which commemorates the tenth anniversary of the ethnic cleansing and genocide in the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, has a great deal of interest to academics and those who are active in conflict/dispute settlement efforts in war-torn areas of the world.The entire bibliography is alphabetically organized and sequentially numbered. Entries are arranged by format under 11 main headings, with each heading divided into different sub-headings.

This accessible course text book has three main themes - the increasing influence of the EU on domestic law; the need to explain the methods of and reasons behind key statutory provisions and the need to make the subject relevant.

The contributors to this book are all members of EuropEos, a multidisciplinary group of jurists, economists, political scientists, and journalists in an ongoing forum discussing European institutional issues. The essays analyze emerging shifts in common policies, institutional settings, and legitimization, sketching out possible scenarios for the European Union of the 21st century. They are grouped into three sections, devoted to economics and consensus, international projection of the Union, and the institutional framework. Even after the major organizational reforms introduced to the EU by the new Treaty of Lisbon, which came into force in December 2009, Europe appears to remain an entity in flux, in search of its ultimate destiny. In line with the very essence of EuropEos, the views collected in this volume are sometimes at odds in their specific conclusions, but they stem from a common commitment to the European construction.
