Synopsis End-User Development by : Volkmar Pipek
Work practices and organizational processes vary widely and evolve constantly. The technological infrastructure has to follow, allowing or even supporting these changes. Traditional approaches to software engineering reach their limits whenever the full spectrum of user requirements cannot be anticipated or the frequency of changes makes software reengineering cycles too clumsy to address all the needs of a specific field of application. Moreover, the increasing importance of ‘infrastructural’ aspects, particularly the mutual dependencies between technologies, usages, and domain competencies, calls for a differentiation of roles beyond the classical user–designer dichotomy. End user development (EUD) addresses these issues by offering lightweight, use-time support which allows users to configure, adapt, and evolve their software by themselves. EUD is understood as a set of methods, techniques, and tools that allow users of software systems who are acting as non-professional software developers to 1 create, modify, or extend a software artifact. While programming activities by non-professional actors are an essential focus, EUD also investigates related activities such as collective understanding and sense-making of use problems and solutions, the interaction among end users with regard to the introduction and diffusion of new configurations, or delegation patterns that may also partly involve professional designers.

Synopsis Human-Computer Interaction. Theory, Methods and Tools by : Masaaki Kurosu
The three-volume set LNCS 12762, 12763, and 12764 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Human Computer Interaction thematic area of the 23rd International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2021, which took place virtually in July 2021. The total of 1276 papers and 241 posters included in the 39 HCII 2021 proceedings volumes was carefully reviewed and selected from 5222 submissions. The 139 papers included in this HCI 2021 proceedings were organized in topical sections as follows: Part I, Theory, Methods and Tools: HCI theory, education and practice; UX evaluation methods, techniques and tools; emotional and persuasive design; and emotions and cognition in HCI Part II, Interaction Techniques and Novel Applications: Novel interaction techniques; human-robot interaction; digital wellbeing; and HCI in surgery Part III, Design and User Experience Case Studies: Design case studies; user experience and technology acceptance studies; and HCI, social distancing, information, communication and work

Synopsis Artificial Intelligence for Human Computer Interaction: A Modern Approach by : Yang Li
This edited book explores the many interesting questions that lie at the intersection between AI and HCI. It covers a comprehensive set of perspectives, methods and projects that present the challenges and opportunities that modern AI methods bring to HCI researchers and practitioners. The chapters take a clear departure from traditional HCI methods and leverage data-driven and deep learning methods to tackle HCI problems that were previously challenging or impossible to address. It starts with addressing classic HCI topics, including human behaviour modeling and input, and then dedicates a section to data and tools, two technical pillars of modern AI methods. These chapters exemplify how state-of-the-art deep learning methods infuse new directions and allow researchers to tackle long standing and newly emerging HCI problems alike. Artificial Intelligence for Human Computer Interaction: A Modern Approach concludes with a section on Specific Domains which covers a set of emerging HCI areas where modern AI methods start to show real impact, such as personalized medical, design, and UI automation.

Synopsis Human-in-the-Loop Machine Learning by : Robert Munro
Machine learning applications perform better with human feedback. Keeping the right people in the loop improves the accuracy of models, reduces errors in data, lowers costs, and helps you ship models faster. Human-in-the-loop machine learning lays out methods for humans and machines to work together effectively. You'll find best practices on selecting sample data for human feedback, quality control for human annotations, and designing annotation interfaces. You'll learn to dreate training data for labeling, object detection, and semantic segmentation, sequence labeling, and more. The book starts with the basics and progresses to advanced techniques like transfer learning and self-supervision within annotation workflows.

Synopsis Research Methods in Human-Computer Interaction by : Jonathan Lazar
Research Methods in Human-Computer Interaction is a comprehensive guide to performing research and is essential reading for both quantitative and qualitative methods. Since the first edition was published in 2009, the book has been adopted for use at leading universities around the world, including Harvard University, Carnegie-Mellon University, the University of Washington, the University of Toronto, HiOA (Norway), KTH (Sweden), Tel Aviv University (Israel), and many others. Chapters cover a broad range of topics relevant to the collection and analysis of HCI data, going beyond experimental design and surveys, to cover ethnography, diaries, physiological measurements, case studies, crowdsourcing, and other essential elements in the well-informed HCI researcher's toolkit. Continual technological evolution has led to an explosion of new techniques and a need for this updated 2nd edition, to reflect the most recent research in the field and newer trends in research methodology. This Research Methods in HCI revision contains updates throughout, including more detail on statistical tests, coding qualitative data, and data collection via mobile devices and sensors. Other new material covers performing research with children, older adults, and people with cognitive impairments. - Comprehensive and updated guide to the latest research methodologies and approaches, and now available in EPUB3 format (choose any of the ePub or Mobi formats after purchase of the eBook) - Expanded discussions of online datasets, crowdsourcing, statistical tests, coding qualitative data, laws and regulations relating to the use of human participants, and data collection via mobile devices and sensors - New material on performing research with children, older adults, and people with cognitive impairments, two new case studies from Google and Yahoo!, and techniques for expanding the influence of your research to reach non-researcher audiences, including software developers and policymakers
