Synopsis Landscapes and Landforms of Italy by : Mauro Soldati
The book deals with the most striking landscapes and landforms of Italy. Attention is given to landform diversity and landscape evolution through time which has been controlled by very diverse geological conditions and dramatic climate changes that have characterized the Italian peninsula and islands since the end of the last glaciation. In addition, various examples of human impact on the landscape are presented. Landscapes and Landforms of Italy contains more than thirty case studies of a multitude of Italian geographical landmarks. The topics and sites described in this book range from the Alpine glaciers to the Etna and Vesuvius volcanoes, taking into account the most representative fluvial, coastal, gravity-induced, karst and structural landscapes of the country. Chapters on the geomorphological landmarks of the cities of Rome and Venice are also included. The book provides the readers with the opportunity to explore the variety of Italian landscapes and landforms through informative texts illustrated with several color maps and photos. Synopsis Walking Amalfi - part I & II by : Vincent Giasolli
Our goal was to start in Maiori and hike to Sorrento, stopping at a different place each night. We planned our route using the travel guide "Landscapes of Sorrento, Amalfi Coast and Capri: walks and car tours", published by Sunflower Books. We concluded staying in a different location each night was not possible. The logistics of whether to carry a tent and sleeping bag was an unanswered question. Finally we concluded that staying in one place for the week was practical, economical, and sensible. We studied the maps and routes for a month and realized many of the places we wanted to explore were in and around Sorrento. All buses leave from Sorrento each morning so it made sense that Sorrento would be our base camp. We would get a room for a week and took the bus each morning to our daily hike. A week stay is less expensive and we could leave the majority of our supplies in the room, taking only what we needed each day.

Synopsis Villa Astor by : Right Honorable the Lord Astor of Hever
This volume showcases the legendary Italian villa that William Waldorf Astor exquisitely curated as a masterpiece of art, architecture, and design. Dominating the Bay of Naples in the charming town of Sorrento, with spectacular views of Mount Vesuvius, Villa Astor is an Italian landmark with a rich history dating back to the Roman Empire. American businessman, collector, and politician William Waldorf Astor—founder of the legendary Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York—fell in love with Italy during his time as American ambassador in Rome. He purchased the villa that now bears his name and turned it into a paradise of art, beauty, architecture, and exquisite gardens. The eccentric, extravagant, and discerning art lover spent a decade restoring and decorating the house and gardens with an outstanding collection of classical artifacts. After Astor’s death in 1919, the villa changed hands. It was recently acquired by new owners, who have restored the villa and gardens to their former splendor with the talented French decorator Jacques Garcia. This volume traces the splendid history of a legendary house, garden, and art collection and the extraordinary life of one of the world’s most enigmatic tycoons.
