Synopsis A Journey to the Center of the Earth by : Jules Verne

Discover the secret world beneath ours in this abridged version of Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Summary of the Book When Alex hears his uncle proclaim that they are about to embark on a quest to find a crater, he is surprised. For one thing, it means leaving his betrothed to go on a mad quest. For another, it means going to Iceland to find a certain crater that leads down into a mysterious world. But Professor Lidenbrock is a hard man to ignore. Fuelled by the spirit of adventure, Alex leaves with Lidenbrock to find this mysterious crater which will take them to a world below the surface. They hire a guide called Hans who takes them to the volcano. Down one of its three craters, these three travellers find a majestic world hidden for centuries, even millennia. Here, prehistoric creatures roam free, and a huge species of man walks upright. Here, there is a large ocean where Palaeolithic creatures rule undeterred by the passage of time. If these three travellers can return home, this discovery will make them rich and famous beyond their wildest dreams. But then again, to do so they will have to find a way out of this world. And so far, there doesn’t seem to be one. About Jules Verne Jules Verne was a French novelist best associated with his books Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, In Search of the Castaways, The Mysterious Island and Around The World In Eighty Days. The above title has been adapted into several films, including a recent 3-D film by Eric Brevig, starring Brendan Fraser, Anita Briem and Josh Hutcherson. This film is a loose adaptation and is intended to be a sequel rather than a true adaptation of Verne’s text.

Synopsis Journey to the Center of the Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Round the World in Eighty Days by : Jules Verne

Jules Verne’s most beloved novels are gathered here in one hardcover volume: three thrilling tales of fabulous journeys under, through, and around the earth. Verne was one of the great pioneers of science fiction. Born in France in 1828, he wrote brilliantly about space, air, and underwater travel long before airplanes and space ships had been invented, and he is still one of the most widely read internationally of all science-fiction writers. But beyond charting new territory for adventurous fiction, his creations have entered our culture and taken on the magnitude and vitality of myth. It is hard to imagine anyone who has not heard of Captain Nemo and his giant submarine exploring the ruins of Atlantis in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Phileas Fogg’s frantic race around the world by every means of transportation in Round the World in Eighty Days, and the harrowing descent through a volcanic crater to underground caverns where prehistoric creatures roam in Journey to the Center of the Earth. These stories have seized the imaginations of readers for generations and are as vivid and exciting now as when their author first imagined traveling beyond the bounds of the possible. Translated by Henry Frith
