On her sixteenth birthday, Jessie Fairchilde wants: her driver's license, a restored 1966 red Mustang, and to break up with her boyfriend and get away from her five-year-old triplet brothers. What happens? She fails the driver's license test, receives a hunk-of-junk, tank-sized 1955 Pontiac that needs major restoration, her boyfriend dumps her, and then worse of all she has to babysit her brothers when her mom must go out-of-town for a family emergency. Jessie rebels and doesn't keep the family tradition of leaving a pan of oil out in the garage. She discovers the family legend about gremlins is true. Now, the freaky little creatures are wrecking her life with their magical mischief. She must stop them, especially since the sparks are flying between her and the new mysterious, bad boy, who moved in next door.

Synopsis Detours by : El Farrar

Jessie hated leaving California, the ocean, the sand between his toes, the cool surf washing around his feet, and the smell of the seaweed as he tangled it around his shoulders. Hed been learning to body-surf with neighborhood friends and was getting pretty good. All that had come to an end when his dad announced taking that out-of-state job. Why isnt the one you have good enough? challenged Jessie. No one listened. From heaven to hell, Jessie thought. He almost hated his dad for making him change friends, schools, and his home, leaving the wonderful sea behind. He bet the teenagers of the desert never even heard of surfing! Making it worse was changing late in the semester. He wouldnt know anyone in his classes; he thought hed be the new freak! His heart was heavy. Would there be anything good to write?

Synopsis The Beatles as Musicians by : Walter Everett

Given the phenomenal fame and commercial success that the Beatles knew for the entire course of their familiar career, their music per se has received surprisingly little detailed attention. Not all of their cultural influence can be traced to tong hair and flashy clothing; the Beatles had numerous fresh ideas about melody, harmony, counterpoint, rhythm, form, colors, and textures. Or consider how much new ground was broken by their lyrics alone -- both the themes and imagery of the Beatles' poetry are key parts of what made (and still makes) this group so important, so popular, and so imitated. This book is a comprehensive chronological study of every aspect of the Fab Four's musical life -- including full examinations of composition, performance practice, recording, and historical context -- during their transcendent late period (1966-1970). Rich, authoritative interpretations are interwoven through a documentary study of many thousands of audio, print, and other sources.

Synopsis A Lonely Girl is a Dangerous Thing by : Jessie Tu

Jena Chung plays the violin. She was once a child prodigy and is now addicted to sex. She's struggling a little. Her professional life comprises rehearsals, concerts, auditions and relentless practice; her personal life is spent managing family demands, those of her creative friends, and lots of sex. Jena is selfish, impulsive and often behaves badly, though mostly only to her own detriment. And then she meets Mark - much older and worldly-wise - who bewitches her. Could this be love? When Jena wins an internship with the New York Philharmonic, she thinks the life she has dreamed of is about to begin. But when Trump is elected New York changes irrevocably, and Jena along with it. Is the dream over? With echoes of Frances Ha, Jena's favourite film, truths are gradually revealed to her. Jena comes to learn that there are many different ways to live and love and that no one has the how-to guide for any of it - not even her indomitable mother. A Lonely Girl is a Dangerous Thing unflinchingly explores the confusion of having expectations upturned, and the awkwardness and pain of being human in our increasingly dislocated world - and how, in spite of all this, we still try to become the person we want to be. It is a dazzling, original and astounding debut from a young writer with a fierce, intelligent and fearless new voice.

Synopsis Midnight Magic at the Railroad Museum by : Verne Gore

Back One day while serving as the celebrated museum host, I observed a youngster, a happy lad with a satisfied smile, marching in the lobby of the museum. After a few cautious steps into the lobby, he stopped dead in his tracks. Standing frozen as he breached the outer museum fortification, his eyes widened and slowly scanned the 1915 locomotive, our first lobby display. After giving it once-over, he turned toward his parents with that delighted energy and exploded with excitement, jumping up and down multiple times with youthful vigor. This is when I came to dream of the excitement that dominates a kid's mind when visiting our museum for the first time. We see it all the time and even experience it when we would read to our children and grandchildren about the topics and themes that nourish their passions. Passions give way to daydreams that inspire us all. This was to be my inspiration and passion to facilitate this museum dedicated to railroading in America. This storybook delivers a narrative that will aid the young adults in appreciation of the museum exhibits and understanding the historical relevance for American railroading. All my main characters are fictional, but they are also real in their relationship with the theme found in each exhibit chapter. It is easy and fun to read for all ages. My objective was to offer an interaction for these youngsters after they have left the museum and take the exhibits with them wherever they go. This story will take the reader to the next level from just visiting the museum. More than an object, the museum exhibits become alive in a historical sense. In my preparation and research, I gained a greater appreciation for railroad dominance in the American frontier in the West and the prosperity it brought throughout the country. My investigation was focused on the museum exhibits. I found myself descending into every rabbit hole. I relied on multiple resources for obtaining the factual information about the museum exhibits to deliver this storybook. Museum docents, collaboration with outside sources as well as individual volunteers and visitors aided me in verifying my Internet investigations. This research and writing effort resulted in a fifteen-month enterprise. I was able to focus my attention to this project while recovering from a surgical procedure, which left me housebound while recovering and going through therapy. While in recovery, it filled my time when I could not entertain museum guests. My focus on the storybook filled a void for those months I was away from the museum. This story adds greater depth into each museum exhibit. There will certainly be favorites of the diverse readers. There is no structure other that one's own individual passion and interest for each exceptional and historical place these exhibits filled in the American railroad experience. So start your adventure reading the Midnight Magic at the Railroad Museum and let your passions and dreams guide you and those you share this journey with. Deliver the same energy when that youngster first entered the California State Railroad Museum, which prompted me to share this story with you...All aboard!
