Synopsis From Fields to Strings by : Misha Shifman
This volume is a collection of dedicated reviews covering all aspects of theoretical high energy physics and some aspects of solid state physics. Some of the papers are broad reviews of topics that span the entire field while others are surveys of authors' personal achievements. This is the most comprehensive review collection reflecting state of the art at the end of 2004. An important and unique aspect is a special effort the authors have invested in making the presentation pedagogical

Synopsis Beyond the Desert 2003 by : Hans-Volker Klapdor-Kleingrothaus
This book contains the Proceedings of the Fourth International Conference on Particle Physics Beyond the Standard Model - BEYOND THE DESERT 2003. Emphasis at BEYOND03 was put on supergravity, which had its twentieth birthday that year, on neutrino physics and dark matter search, and on gravitation and cosmology, and some other very important fields. The book resents a timely and valuable overview of the status and future potential and trends in theoretical and experimental particle physics, in the complementary sectors of accelerator, non-accelerator and space physics.

Synopsis Decoherence and Entropy in Complex Systems by : Hans-Thomas Elze
The contributions to this volume are based on selected lectures from the first international workshop on decoherence, information, complexity and entropy (DICE). The aim of this volume is to reflect the growing importance ot common concepts behind seemingly different fields such as quantum mechanics, general relativity and statistical physics in a form accessible to nonspecialist researchers. Many presentations include original results which published here for the first time.

Synopsis The Invisible Universe: Dark Matter and Dark Energy by : Eleftherios Papantonopoulos
The nature and essence of Dark Matter and Dark Energy have become the central issue in modern cosmology over the past years. This extensive volume, an outgrowth of a topical and tutorial summer school, has been set up with the aim of constituting an advanced-level, multi-authored textbook which meets the needs of both postgraduate students and young researchers in the fields of modern cosmology and astrophysics.

Synopsis Lectures on Quantum Gravity by : Andres Gomberoff
The 2002 Pan-American Advanced Studies Institute School on Quantum Gravity was held at the Centro de Estudios Cientificos (CECS),Valdivia, Chile, January 4-14, 2002. The school featured lectures by ten speakers, and was attended by nearly 70 students from over 14 countries. A primary goal was to foster interaction and communication between participants from different cultures, both in the layman’s sense of the term and in terms of approaches to quantum gravity. We hope that the links formed by students and the school will persist throughout their professional lives, continuing to promote interaction and the essential exchange of ideas that drives research forward. This volume contains improved and updated versions of the lectures given at the School. It has been prepared both as a reminder for the participants, and so that these pedagogical introductions can be made available to others who were unable to attend. We expect them to serve students of all ages well.

Synopsis The Physics of the Early Universe by : Eleftherios Papantonopoulos
The Physics of the Early Universe is an edited and expanded version of the lectures given at a recent summer school of the same name. Its aim is to present an advanced multi-authored textbook that meets the needs of both postgraduate students and young researchers interested in, or already working on, problems in cosmology and general relativity, with emphasis on the early universe. A particularly strong feature of the present work is the constructive-critical approach to the present mainstream theories, the careful assessment of some alternative approaches, and the overall balance between theoretical and observational considerations. As such, this book will also benefit experienced scientists and nonspecialists from related areas of research.

Synopsis Dark Matter in Astro- and Particle Physics by : H.V. Klapdor-Kleingrothaus
Dark matter in the Universe has become one of the most exciting and central fields of astrophysics, particle physics and cosmology. The lectures and talks in this book emphasize the experimental and theoretical status and perspectives of the ongoing search for dark matter, and the future potential of the field into the next millennium, stressing in particular the interplay between astro- and particle physics.
