The 21st century has seen remarkable progress in Artificial Intelligence, with application to a variety of fields (computer vision, automatic translation, sentiment analysis in social networks, robotics, etc.) The IAI2023 focuses on Industrial Artificial Intelligence, or IAI. The emergence of industrial AI applications holds tremendous promises in terms of achieving excellence and cost-effectiveness in the operation and maintenance of industrial assets. Opportunities in Industrial AI exist in many industries such as aerospace, railways, mining, construction, process industry, etc. Its development is powered by several trends: the Internet of Things (IoT); the increasing convergence between OT (operational technologies) and IT (information technologies); last but not least, the unabated fast-paced developments of advanced analytics. However, numerous technical and organizational challenges to the widespread development of industrial AI still exist. The IAI2023 conference and its proceedings foster fruitful discussions between AI creators and industrial practitioners.

A timely investigation of the potential economic effects, both realized and unrealized, of artificial intelligence within the United States healthcare system. In sweeping conversations about the impact of artificial intelligence on many sectors of the economy, healthcare has received relatively little attention. Yet it seems unlikely that an industry that represents nearly one-fifth of the economy could escape the efficiency and cost-driven disruptions of AI. The Economics of Artificial Intelligence: Health Care Challenges brings together contributions from health economists, physicians, philosophers, and scholars in law, public health, and machine learning to identify the primary barriers to entry of AI in the healthcare sector. Across original papers and in wide-ranging responses, the contributors analyze barriers of four types: incentives, management, data availability, and regulation. They also suggest that AI has the potential to improve outcomes and lower costs. Understanding both the benefits of and barriers to AI adoption is essential for designing policies that will affect the evolution of the healthcare system.

Intelligent environments (IE) combine physical spaces with ICT and pervasive technology to improve a user’s awareness of their surroundings, empower them to carry out tasks, enrich their experience, and enhance their ability to manage such environments. A growing community, from academia to practitioners, is working to bring intelligent environments to life. This work is driven by the innovative ideas and technological progress that are making the sensors and computing devices required for intelligent environments more affordable and energy-efficient. This book presents papers from Workshops held during the 17th International Conference on Intelligent Environments, IE2021. The conference was due to take place in Dubai, UAE, but was held as a virtual event from 21 to 24 June 2021 due to the restrictions associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. This book collects perceptions and needs expectations and experiences concerning the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning in the steel sector. It contains a selection of themes discussed within the Workshop entitled “Impact and Opportunities of Artificial Intelligence in the Steel Industry” organized by the European Steel Technology Platform as an online event from October 15 until November 5, 2020. The event aimed at analyzing the diffusion of AI technologies in steelworks and at providing indications for future research, development and innovation actions addressing the sector demands. The chapters treat general analyses on transversal themes and applications for process optimization, product quality enhancement, yield increase, optimal exploitation of resources and smart data handling. Collaboration between those working in product development and production is essential for successful product realization. The Swedish Production Academy (SPA) was founded in 2006 with the aim of driving and developing production research and higher education in Sweden, and increasing national cooperation in research and education within the area of production. This book presents the proceedings of SPS2024, the 11th Swedish Production Symposium, held from 23 to 26 April 2024 in Trollhättan, Sweden. The conference provided a platform for SPA members, as well as for professionals from industry and academia interested in production research and education from around the world, to share insights and ideas.
