This workshop is part of a series of annual workshops organised by the Nankai Institute of Mathematics. Prominent scientists from abroad are invited to deliver the main lectures.

This volume contains the lectures given by the three speakers, M Jimbo, P P Kulish and E K Sklyanin, who are outstanding experts in their field. It is essential reading to those working in the fields of Quantum Groups, and Integrable Systems.

This volume gives the reader a feel for the latest applications of the symmetry approach to problems in elementary particle physics. Not only are formal, phenomenological and model-building aspects covered but there are also interesting presentations detailing the history of the subject.

This textbook systematically presents fundamental methods of statistical analysis: from probability and statistical distributions, through basic concepts of statistical inference, to a collection of methods of analysis useful for scientific research. It is rich in tables, diagrams, and examples, in addition to theoretical justification of the methods of analysis introduced. Each chapter has a section entitled “Exercises and Problems” to accompany the text. There are altogether about 300 exercises and problems, answers to the selected problems are given. A section entitled “Proof of the Results in This Chapter” in each chapter provides interested readers with material for further study.

This volume contains material submitted to a symposium on mathematical physics in July 1993 at the Technical University of Clausthal. It focuses on mathematical and physical notions of symmetries, especially on generalized and quantum symmetries (quantum groups and algebras) with applications to integrable systems, quasi-exact solvability, quantization methods and nonlinear problems. The workshop is a continuation of the series of meetings and workshops on mathematical physics in Clausthal which brings together mathematicians, theoretical and mathematical physicists working in the different parts of generalized symmetries. Recent developments in the mathematical structure and physical applications of generalized symmetries are discussed.

The book consists of lectures delivered at the International Symposium on Coherent States: Past, Present, and Future, held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, June 14 - 17 1993. Both theoretical and experimental subjects are treated. Theoretical subjects dealt with include quantum optics, quantum chaos, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, high energy physics and foundational issues such as quantum-classical connections and various semiclassical quantization schemes. Experimental topics dealt with principally concern atomic and molecular physics and especially lasers. Topics related to coherent states, most notably wavelets, are also included.

This volume records the proceedings of an international conference that explored recent developments and the interaction between mathematical theory and physical phenomena.

During the last six decades, Yang-Mills theory has increasingly become the cornerstone of theoretical physics. It is seemingly the only fully consistent relativistic quantum many-body theory in four space-time dimensions. As such it is the underlying theoretical framework for the Standard Model of Particle Physics, which has been shown to be the correct theory at the energies we now can measure. It has been investigated also from many other perspectives, and many new and unexpected features have been uncovered from this theory. In recent decades, apart from high energy physics, the theory has been actively applied in other branches of physics, such as statistical physics, condensed matter physics, nonlinear systems, etc. This makes the theory an indispensable topic for all who are involved in physics.The conference celebrated the exceptional achievements using Yang-Mills theory over the years but also many other truly remarkable contributions to different branches of physics from Prof C N Yang. This volume collects the invaluable talks by Prof C N Yang and the invited speakers reviewing these remarkable contributions and their importance for the future of physics.
