Synopsis Inelastic Behavior of Materials and Structures Under Monotonic and Cyclic Loading by : Holm Altenbach

This book presents studies on the inelastic behavior of materials and structures under monotonic and cyclic loads. It focuses on the description of new effects like purely thermal cycles or cases of non-trivial damages. The various models are based on different approaches and methods and scaling aspects are taken into account. In addition to purely phenomenological models, the book also presents mechanisms-based approaches. It includes contributions written by leading authors from a host of different countries.

Synopsis Material Modeling and Structural Mechanics by : Holm Altenbach

This book presents various questions of continuum mechanical modeling in the context of experimental and numerical methods, in particular, multi-field problems that go beyond the standard models of continuum mechanics. In addition, it discusses dynamic problems and practical solutions in the field of numerical methods. It focuses on continuum mechanics, which is often overlooked in the traditional division of mechanics into statics, strength of materials and kinetics. The book is dedicated to Prof. Volker Ulbricht, who passed away on April 9, 2021.

Synopsis Creep in Structures VI by : Holm Altenbach

This book offers a current state of the art in analysis and modeling of creep phenomena with applications to the structural mechanics. It presents the some presentations from the IUTAM-Symposium series "Creep in Structures", which held in Magdeburg (Germany) in September 2023, and it discusses many advances and new results in the field. These are for example: interlinks of mechanics with materials science in multi-scale analysis of deformation and damage mechanisms over a wide range of stresses and temperature; development and analysis of new alloys for (ultra)high-temperature applications; formulation and calibration of advanced constitutive models of inelastic behavior under transient loading and temperature conditions; development of efficient procedures and machine learning techniques for identification of material parameters in advanced constitutive laws; introduction of gradient-enhanced and non-local theories to account for damage and fracture processes; and application of new experimental methods, such as digital image correlation, for the analysis of inelastic deformation under multi-axial stress state.

Synopsis Advanced Problem in Mechanics III by : D. A. Indeitsev

This book focuses on original theories and approaches in the field of mechanics. It reports on both theoretical and applied researches, with a special emphasis on problems and solutions at the interfaces of mechanics and other research areas. The respective chapters highlight cutting-edge works fostering development in fields such as micro- and nanomechanics, material science, physics of solid states, molecular physics, astrophysics, and many others. Special attention has been given to outstanding research conducted by young scientists from all over the world. This book is based on the 49th edition of the international conference “Advanced Problems in Mechanics”, which was held on June 21-25, 2021, in St. Petersburg, Russia, and co-organized by The Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and the Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering of the Russian Academy of Sciences, under the patronage of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It provides researchers and graduate students with an extensive overview of the latest research and a source of inspiration for future developments and collaborations in mechanics and related fields.

Synopsis Advanced Theories for Deformation, Damage and Failure in Materials by : Holm Altenbach

The book introduces advanced theories for deformation, damage, and failure in materials. The overall continuum mechanical framework was marked out and added by creep and damage mechanics of materials at elevated temperatures. The time-dependent and time-independent models of cyclic plasticity for low cycle and thermomechanical fatigue life assessment were specified in a very special manner: instead of three-dimensional statements, only one-dimensional rheological models were discussed. Anisotropic plasticity during non-proportional loading and anisotropy of yield/failure criteria is more and more important in modern applications. It is showing how the limit states of materials can be estimated. In addition, the damage and failure of composite materials demonstrate the possibility to extend continuum mechanics to continuum damage mechanics of composite materials.

Synopsis Modeling High Temperature Materials Behavior for Structural Analysis by : Konstantin Naumenko

This monograph presents approaches to characterize inelastic behavior of materials and structures at high temperature. Starting from experimental observations, it discusses basic features of inelastic phenomena including creep, plasticity, relaxation, low cycle and thermal fatigue. The authors formulate constitutive equations to describe the inelastic response for the given states of stress and microstructure. They introduce evolution equations to capture hardening, recovery, softening, ageing and damage processes. Principles of continuum mechanics and thermodynamics are presented to provide a framework for the modeling materials behavior with the aim of structural analysis of high-temperature engineering components.

Synopsis Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures under Cyclic Loading by : Yuhshi Fukumoto

The U.S.-Japan Joint Seminar on Stability and Ductility of Steel Structures under Cyclic Loading was held in Osaka, Japan on July 1-3, 1991. This three-day seminar was devoted to five main topics: 1) materials properties and plasticity models, which featured experimental investigations of the material properties of structural steels and plasticity models of the material characteristics under dynamic and cyclic loading conditions; 2) experimental observations, which featured experimental studies of cyclic buckling behavior of steel structural members and frames subjected to dynamic and cyclic loading conditions; 3) analytical modeling, which discussed analytical modeling of the cyclic buckling behavior of steel structural members and frames; 4) design implementation, which emphasized earthquake engineering design of steel structures against cyclic buckling; and 5) future research needs, in which future analytical and experimental research needs on the behavior and design of steel structures subjected to dynamic and cyclic loading conditions were identified. This book contains 30 contributed papers presented at the seminar.
