The book of readings, Business Strategies for Economies in Transition, is a collection of papers describing various business issues as they occurred during the economic transitions in Central and Eastern European countries. The book’s sections are organized along the typical academic business disciplines – Marketing Management, Advertising, Finance and Banking and Human Resource Management. This organization allows professors from various disciplines to focus on articles within the area of their specific interest. The Maculan case is a multifaceted exercise. The scope is very broad, covering topics such as management, multi cultural environment, changing regulations, and corporate growth, to name a few. The accompanying Teaching Note gives some classroom guidance on how to approach this case. However, educators may find other issues in this case worth discussing with students. While the readings are from CEE countries, we feel that much of the material can and should be used when looking at other economies, be they in transition or in the process of economic development. There are many countries that are in one of these two stages. Many of the problems addressed in this book are relevant to developing economies. Any major change in the economic system, be that transition or development, impacts people. As such, the response of the population will directly influence the chance of a successful transformation.

Twenty researchers and scientists from 13 different European countries join forces to offer their insights into the development of the Information Society in their respective countries. These experts provide analyses regarding issues of technological absorption, economic growth, and cohesion across the enlarged European Union. This volume shows that the history of Information Society in these countries has mainly been about catching up under harsh economic constraints. The ongoing monitoring of these innovative challenges--and how they are addressed at a regional and national level--is an essential contribution to these countries' efforts to become world-class economies.

Ecology is the study of the interrelationships between organisms and their environment, including the biotic and abiotic components. This book presents new research on ecology from around the world.

A sound promotion of innovation is essential for the future of the Baltic Sea Region, in particular to support the small- and medium sized enterprises. For this purposes stakeholders from medium-sized businesses, science, politics, and administration met at the seventh Hanseatic Conference in May 2012 in Hamburg. For two days the participants discussed about "Innovation and innovative strategies in the regional policy around the mare balticum" to further strengthen the region. It became evident, that a sustainable promotion of innovation demands a closer cooperation within the regions, on a transnational level but also between administrations and especially between companies and R&D institutions. The Baltic Sea area will only be one of the most innovative and strong regions in the world, if the bordering countries build a unit. This publication included the presented papers and summarizes the discussion of the participants.

Abstract: The Northern e-Dimension Action Plan - NeDAP - 2005-06 was adopted by the Heads of Government of the Council of the Baltic Sea States during the 5th Baltic Sea States Summit in June 2004, and by the Nordic Council of Ministers in August 2004. The action plan is a tangible result of a new cooperation arrangement between the Council of Baltic Sea States, the European Commission and the Nordic Council of Ministers. The NeDAP 2005-06 consists of 8 action lines: 1. Internet and Internet Applications in Research and Development, 2. A Secure Information Infrastructure, 3. eSkills and eLearning, 4. eHealth, 5. eGovernment, 6. eIndicators, 7. eEnvironment, and 8. eInclusion. This report presents the results of work conducted in 2005 by action line 6, eIndicators, providing new and comprehensive statistics about the information societies in the Baltic Region
