Synopsis Indiana Historical Society Publications, Vol. 1 (Classic Reprint) by :

Excerpt from Indiana Historical Society Publications, Vol. 1 In 1886 several gentlemen of Indianapolis agreed to unite for the purpose of preserving historical material pertaining to the state. Among those asked to join was Major Jonathan W. Gordon, who had been a member of the society, and who suggested its reorganization. This plan was adopted. A meet ing of the surviving members of the society was called, new members were elected, and the society was once more put in motion. Since then meetings have been held regularly, and the work of the society has been prosecuted with persistence if not with vigor.
