After some time, a longing for quiet draws her to the countryside, and the second half of the book focuses on the villages and a rhythm of life which has not changed much over the centuries. The fourteen chapters of the book are each introduced by two pages of stories and descriptions by Pauline to explain, in a personal way, the following pages of photographs. The text is limited to her impressions, as the book is meant to be essentially a visual experience. An exploration of religious conflicts in premodern urban India. Diverse peoples intermingled in the streets and markets of premodern Indian cities. This book considers how these diverse residents lived together and negotiated their differences. Which differences mattered, when and to whom? How did state actions and policies affect urban society and the lives of various communities? How and why did conflict occur in urban spaces? Through these questions, this book explores the histories of urban communities in the three cities of Ajmer, Nagaur, and Pushkar in Rajasthan, between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. The focus of this study is on everyday life, contextualizing religious practices and conflicts by considering patterns of patronage and broader conflict patterns within society. The book examines various archival documents, from family and institutional records to state registers, and uses these documents to demonstrate the complex and sometimes contradictory ways religion intersected with politics, economics, and society. The author shows how many patronage patterns and processes persisted in altered forms, and how the robustness of these structures contributed to the resilience of urban spaces and society in precolonial Rajasthan.

Through awareness- building and group information, rural women in several districts in India have realized that deprivation is not unchangeable, that alternatives exist, that they are competent enough to choose between alternatives, and that they are not alone.

About the book Women Workers Vulnerability The unorganized sector comprises a major part of the Indian Economy. In the unorganized sector, those enterprises and employments are involved which are unregistered under any legal provision. This Book deals with the women workers in the unorganized sector of the economy in India. The term ‘unorganized’ is often used in the Indian context to refer to the vast numbers of women and men engaged in different forms of employment. These forms include home-based work, self-employment in household enterprises, small units, on land as agricultural workers, labour on construction sites, domestic work, and many other forms of casual or temporary employment. The unorganized sector is physically more visible in India. It is found in almost all the industrial segments of the Indian economy, that is, in agriculture, industry, household and the services sectors. More than 90% of manpower contributes to the unorganized sector globally. In, the Indian scenario, 86% of human resource is employed in the unorganized sector. Female workers form the largest segment of India’s unorganized workforce. 91% of women workers in the unorganized sector are rendering their services. They work in unorganized sectors for low wages due to low level of skills, illiteracy, ignorance and surplus labour and thus face a high level of exploitation. The social and economic profile of female workers is greatly affected by the nature of the industrial sector where they work. This book focuses on presenting the real picture of the current conditions of women workers in all the tehsils of the Udaipur district of Rajasthan, who are involved in four kinds of unorganized occupations i.e., domestic, vendors, construction and self-employment.. This book throws light on their role, nature of work, living standards, vulnerability and the problems which they are facing frequently in unorganized sector.
