Synopsis Students' Opinion on Sexuality Education in Schools and Appropriateness of Different Approaches by : Siu-Lun Lo

Abstract: With the ever increasing pregnancy rate of students, people have begun to doubt the effectiveness of the sexuality education in Hong Kong. Some argued that a more comprehensive approach should be adopted while others argue that the more traditional approach is better. However, the voices of students are almost neglected. The aim of this study is to fill this gap and illuminates students' views on sexuality education in schools and appropriateness of different approaches. In general, students welcome sexuality education as they agree that there is a need for such education; however, there is a big gap between what students want to learn and what the schools are actually teaching... In this research, I would also argue how this gap might be a major obstacle in the implementation of sex education in Hong Kong. DOI: 10.5353/th_b5017869 Subjects: Sex instruction - China - Hong Kong

Synopsis The Comparative Research on Sex Education for Adolescents of China and the US by : Zhou Yu-feng
Sex education refers to people's comprehension about sex, which involves not only sexual structure (anatomy, physiology, birth control, pregnancy, etc.), but also sexual relationships concerning human and moral problems. It includes at least sexual physiology, sexual psychology, sexual ethic, sexual law, etc., which aims to help people form the attitude and behavior that both society and morality can accept. So, it is a kind of long-term education for a person. For limited length, this paper only studies adolescents' (mainly students in primary and middle schools) sex education in China and the US (the United States). Due to the restriction of traditional thoughts, sex education on adolescents has been developing so slowly that it turns into the weak point of basic education and results in the growth of adolescents' sexual ignorance, sexual faults and sexual crimes. America is one of the earliest countries that launch sex education in the world and it has plenty of academic as well as practical experience we can study and learn from.

Synopsis Exploring Sexuality and Disability by : Shanna Katz Kattari
Offering a current, comprehensive, and intersectional guide for students, practitioners, and researchers, this book synthesizes existing scholarship on culturally responsive practices that assist in exploring, understanding, and affirming the sexuality(ies) of disabled, chronically ill, neurodivergent, and Mad individuals. Drawing on an intersectional framework, it integrates insights drawn from an interdisciplinary body of scholarship including psychology, social work, sociology, history, political science, women and gender studies, cultural studies, and education along with perspectives from the practitioners who are actively defining the next generation of best practices. By highlighting the incredible resilience and resistance of disabled individuals’ and communities’ sexuality and sexual well-being, this book challenges narratives that rely primarily on a one-dimensional view derived from the medical model and the view of disability as something to be “fixed” – or at least tolerated – rather than celebrated. In a world that pathologizes and devalues the sexual existence of disabled individuals, it illustrates how to create thriving communities and relationships, and how they can organize to find their voice, providing a counter-narrative of empowerment that fosters hopefulness, power, and health. It will be of interest to all scholars, students, and professionals across a variety of professions, including social work, psychology, counseling, policy, healthcare, education, community organizing, and multiple social service settings.
