Synopsis Impact of Wildlife Recreation on Farmland Values by : Jason Henderson
Wildlife recreation ¿- hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching- ¿ appears to be an increasingly important pastime for many Americans as people continue to increase their spending on wildlife recreation. Land lease and ownership expenditures by wildlife recreation participants are rising and appear to be capitalized into farmland values. This report analyzes the impact of hunting lease rates on farmland values in Texas. The results indicate that counties with higher wildlife recreation income streams have higher land values. Tables.

Synopsis Subsidizing Job Creation in the Great Recession by : Sagiri Kitao
Analyzes the effects of various labor market policies on job creation, job destruction, and employment. The equilibrium model is calibrated to capture labor market conditions at the end of 2009, including the unemployment, inflow, and outflow rates by workers of different educational attainment. The authors consider the equilibrium effects of a hiring subsidy, a payroll tax reduction, and an employment subsidy. They find that a hiring subsidy and a payroll tax deduction, as in the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act, can stimulate job creation in the short term, but can cause a higher equilibrium unemployment rate in the long term. Employment subsidies succeed in lowering the unemploy. rate permanently, but the policy entails high fiscal costs. Illus.

Synopsis The Economics of American Agriculture by : Steven C. Blank
This book answers the questions: What is happening to American agriculture, and why? Steven C. Blank uses portfolio theory to analyze both macro- and microeconomic data that paints a clear picture of the trends in agriculture, and explains why these trends are consistent with market evolution and global economic development. He clarifies agriculture's specific role in economic development with a focus on the current and future globalizing commodity markets. The book features empirical research that demonstrates the link between farm-level investment decisions and regional and national economic trends. It shows how the dynamic environment of industrialization and globalization of agriculture is part of a continuing development that is driven by technological innovation. This all points to a future with a very different agricultural production sector and some extremely important policy choices that will face the entire country.
