Synopsis I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening) by : Sarah Stewart Holland
More than ever, politics seem to be driven by discord. People sitting together in pews every Sunday feel like strangers and loved ones at the dinner table feel like enemies. Toxic political dialogue, hate-filled rants on social media, and agenda-driven news stories have become the new norm. But it doesn't have to be this way. In I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening), two working moms from opposite ends of the political spectrum teach us that politics don't have to divide us. Instead, we can bring the same care and respect to policy discussions that we bring to the rest of our lives. Sarah Stewart Holland and Beth Silvers, co-hosts of Pantsuit Politics, recently named an Apple Podcasts Show of the Year, give you all of the tools you need to: Respect the dignity of every person Recognize that issues are nuanced and can't be reduced to political talking points Listen in order to understand Lead with grace and patience Join Sarah from the left and Beth from the right as they teach you that people from opposing political perspectives truly can have calm, grace-filled conversations with one another. Praise for I Think You're Wrong (But I'm Listening): "Sarah and Beth are an absolute gift to our culture right now. Not only do they offer balanced perspectives from each political ideology, but they teach us how to dialogue well, without sacrificing our humanity." --Jen Hatmaker, New York Times bestselling author and speaker "Sarah from the left and Beth from the right serve as our guides through conflict and complexity, delivering us into connection. I wish every person living in the United States would read this compelling book, from the youngest voter to those holding the highest office." --Emily P. Freeman, Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Next Right Thing

Synopsis I'm Listening by : Beth Pandolpho
"In I'm Listening: How Teacher-Student Relationships Improve Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening, author Beth Pandolpho extolls the virtues of strong student-teacher relationships, explains the numerous beneficial effects of these relationships, and provides a guide to building these relationships. As the author points out, many educators believe that building strong relationships with students is mutually exclusive with ambitious educational experiences and academic criticism. Not only is this untrue, but the opposite is the case. As such, this book demonstrates how educators can intentionally build strong relationships with their students. Through these relationships educators can create a classroom environment that is both welcoming to students and rigorously academic. Along with studying the research and theory that support the author's thesis, readers will also study numerous tools, strategies, and practices that can be utilized in the classroom to effectively build these relationships. Through this book, readers will learn how to create a sensitive, caring, and engaging classroom that will provide students with the support they need to develop emotionally and persevere through difficult and demanding coursework"--

Synopsis I'm Listening by : Stuart M. Losen PhD
This collection of writings about my experiences as a psychotherapist and teacher first describes some of the childhood circumstances that influenced my becoming a good listener. It then highlights what I learned from two of my professors that influenced my decision me to become a psychologist. The book is primarily intended to serve as a memoir, my legacy for family and friends. It is essentially an account of my work as a psychologist, describing the skills—including careful listening—which I learned to employ with my clients in therapy and with the students I taught. It is intended, not as a textbook, to instruct about therapeutic or teaching methods, but as a description of the techniques I learned along the way to becoming a successful therapist and educator. More than simply emphasizing the importance of listening carefully to what my clients said--as well as what they didn’t say—I hope to convey by my example what behavior must be attended to, what should be encouraged and what values ought to be reinforced in order to meet the needs of those seeking assistance.

The book includes a guide for weekly small-group conversations, plus an end-of week reflection process for all readers

Throughout the Bible, God spoke to people, but does He still speak to us today? Through personal stories in Speak to Me, Lord, Im Listening, you will gain fresh insight into how God communicates with us. Come along and hear how God spoke to me the day a fire threatened our home and again when we endured a mudslide. Enjoy His sense of humor as He spoke in the midst of a disastrous camping trip. Be encouraged by how He provided specific Scripture in the face of important decisions and wisdom regarding a sticky relationship. Experience the amazing words of hope and counsel He gave us regarding our sons college education. Share in the unique words of comfort and support God gave me during my mothers trial with Alzheimers. Again, when my husband had a stroke, it was Gods personal direction that led to a miraculous event. Through stories, interspersed with biblical insights, you will find that our journey through life with Jesus is more than us talking to Him. It is also God speaking words of encouragement, comfort, and direction through Scripture, prayer, people, circumstances, dreams, visions, and His creation. Join me as we embark on an adventure of discovering and recognizing Gods voice. Lets listen and delight in hearing Him speak. "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me (John 10:27).

Synopsis You're Not Listening by : Kate Murphy
When was the last time you listened to someone, or someone really listened to you? "If you’re like most people, you don’t listen as often or as well as you’d like. There’s no one better qualified than a talented journalist to introduce you to the right mindset and skillset—and this book does it with science and humor." -Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Originals and Give and Take **Hand picked by Malcolm Gladwell, Adam Grant, Susan Cain, and Daniel Pink for Next Big Ideas Club** "An essential book for our times." -Lori Gottlieb, New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone At work, we’re taught to lead the conversation. On social media, we shape our personal narratives. At parties, we talk over one another. So do our politicians. We’re not listening. And no one is listening to us. Despite living in a world where technology allows constant digital communication and opportunities to connect, it seems no one is really listening or even knows how. And it’s making us lonelier, more isolated, and less tolerant than ever before. A listener by trade, New York Times contributor Kate Murphy wanted to know how we got here. In this always illuminating and often humorous deep dive, Murphy explains why we’re not listening, what it’s doing to us, and how we can reverse the trend. She makes accessible the psychology, neuroscience, and sociology of listening while also introducing us to some of the best listeners out there (including a CIA agent, focus group moderator, bartender, radio producer, and top furniture salesman). Equal parts cultural observation, scientific exploration, and rousing call to action that's full of practical advice, You're Not Listening is to listening what Susan Cain's Quiet was to introversion. It’s time to stop talking and start listening.
