Synopsis IIOP Complete by : William A. Ruh
The Internet Inter-ORB Protocol (IIOP) is a communications mechanism that allows object request brokers (ORBs) to communicate with one another. IIOP is an integral part of the broader Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) standard that has been developed and widely promoted throughout industry by the Object Management Group. IIOP was designed to allow disparate software components to communicate with one another, and it ensures interoperability on top of the most popular communications protocol in use today -- TCP/IP. While IIOP is a specialized subset of the broader CORBA specification, its popularity is increasing steadily. In fact, IIOP support has become one of the standard checkbox items that software vendors are adding to their product descriptions. This book provides a broad perspective of IIOP, allowing any CORBA developer to gain an in-depth understanding of this foundational standard. In turn, an increased knowledge of IIOP allows systems developers to more easily build interoperable objects for the enterprise.

Synopsis High Performance Servers by : Architecture Technology Architecture Technology Corpor
Please note this is a Short Discount publication. LANs have gone through stages. Early LANs connected asychronous terminals to minicomputers. With the advent of the IBM PC the focus on technology changed to that of PCs connected to some type of 'file server'. After a number of years, the battle over file servers turned into a battle of network operating systems. With the advent of the client server model, and high performance workstations, one direction the battle has been taking is to develop a high performance server engine. The general strategy in this arena is to attempt to remove bottlenecks in the processing of service requests to the various networks operating. Several consortiums of venture capitalists have poured amounts of money in the range of $20m into developing the ultimate high performance server. With Novell shipping thousands of copies of NetWare 386 per month, this lucrative market is about to undergo intense long term competition. This report describes the general approaches that can be used to develop a high performance server and several of the key products in the area including products from several start up ventures.

Synopsis Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0 by : Rima Patel Sriganesh
An invaluable tutorial on the dramatic changes to Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) 3.0 Featuring myriad changes from its previous versions, EJB 3.0 boasts a very different programming and deployment model, with nearly every aspect of development affected. Even the most experienced EBJ and J2EE developers will need to relearn how to best use EJB to develop mission-critical applications. This author team of experts has taken their combined skills in architecture, development, consulting, and knowledge transfer to explain the various changes to EJB 3.0 as well as the rationale behind these changes. You'll learn the concepts and techniques for authoring distributed, enterprise components in Java from the ground up. Covering basic through advanced subjects, Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0 is more than 50 percent new and revised. Four new chapters and one new appendix cover the latest features of this new release, and in-depth coverage of the Java Persistence API and the entities defined therein is provided. The authors' main goal is to get you programming with EJB immediately. To that end, you'll learn: * How to implement EJB 3.0 beans, with emphasis on session beans (stateful and stateless) and message-driven beans * Both basic and advanced concepts (such as inheritance, relationships, and so on) of Java Persistence API defined entities * How to develop and deploy EJB 3.0 Web services * How to secure EJB applications * How to integrate EJB applications with the outside world via the Java EE Connector technology * Tips and techniques for designing and deploying EJB for better performance * How clustering in large-scale EJB systems works * Best practices for EJB application design, development, and testing The companion Web site provides all the source code, updates to the source code examples, and a PDF version of the book. Synopsis Intelligent Systems by : Cornelius T. Leondes
Intelligent systems, or artificial intelligence technologies, are playing an increasing role in areas ranging from medicine to the major manufacturing industries to financial markets. The consequences of flawed artificial intelligence systems are equally wide ranging and can be seen, for example, in the programmed trading-driven stock market crash of October 19, 1987. Intelligent Systems: Technology and Applications, Six Volume Set connects theory with proven practical applications to provide broad, multidisciplinary coverage in a single resource. In these volumes, international experts present case-study examples of successful practical techniques and solutions for diverse applications ranging from robotic systems to speech and signal processing, database management, and manufacturing.

Synopsis Formal Methods for Eternal Networked Software Systems by : Marco Bernardo
This book presents 15 tutorial lectures by leading researchers given at the 11th edition of the International School on Formal Methods for the Design of Computer, Communication and Software Systems, SFM 2011, held in Bertinoro, Italy, in June 2011. SFM 2011 was devoted to formal methods for eternal networked software systems and covered several topics including formal foundations for the inter-operability of software systems, application-layer and middleware-layer dynamic connector synthesis, interaction behavior monitoring and learning, and quality assurance of connected systems. The school was held in collaboration with the researchers of the EU-funded projects CONNECT and ETERNALS. The papers are organized into six parts: (i) architecture and interoperability, (ii) formal foundations for connectors, (iii) connector synthesis, (iv) learning and monitoring, (v) dependability assurance, and (vi) trustworthy eternal systems via evolving software.

Synopsis Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems V by : Bart Jacobs
Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems V brings together research in three important and related fields: Formal methods; Distributed systems; Object-based technology. Such a convergence is representative of recent advances in the field of distributed systems, and provides links between several scientific and technological communities. The wide scope of topics covered in this volume range in subject from UML to object-based languages and calculi and security, and in approach from specification to case studies and verification. This volume comprises the proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems (FMOODS 2002), which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Enschede, The Netherlands in March 2002.
