Synopsis Iceland: Born of Lava, Chiseled by Ice by : Arnold Zageris
Iceland has an alien quality that defies expectations. Its interior is lifeless and bare with volcanic formations that are reminiscent of what the earth must have looked like in Archean times. Hot geysers, deep mountainous fjords, and glaciers that carve their way into the lowlands are just some of the features that are compressed into this small island nation. It is just such compelling and unfamiliar landscape that makes visiting here an ultimate trip. "My focus was not on the iconic hotspots that made Iceland famous but the less visited and undiscovered features that had their own intrinsic values in texture, form and color. With each of my five visits I discovered much more by limiting myself to explore and familiarize myself with a small select unknown area becoming more an opportunistic photographer depending mostly on luck to find something that merited my attention. Whether I was climbing for days in the highlands of the interior, skirting calving glaciers, crossing a moonlike landscape or wandering a weatherbeaten shore, Iceland is a photographer's paradise."

Synopsis Bare Landscapes by : Sigthor Markusson
In this photographic journey across the topography of Iceland, the ride is mesmerizing because it is an exploration of two bodies, that of the land and the female form. They are both exposed as they were born, raw and primal, naked and austere, unadorned and blooming. Whether resolved against volcanic rock, sequestered in craters of ice or simmering in hot springs, these stark primordial landscapes are chiseled out of time, untouched in their natural beauty, like the feminine forms that grace them. Sixty provocative photos grace the pages, accompanied by poetry in both English and Icelandic that frames the view and sets the scene. The rough and angular Icelandic landscape and the smooth, curved human body are captured with an artist's attention to form and contrast, creating surprising juxtapositions at every turn.

Synopsis The Ascent of Mind by : William H. Calvin
Daniel C. Dennet's description of this scientist's travelogue: "How did the mind evolve? It takes a scientist of extraordinary breadth who is also a master storyteller to sketch the boundaries of this mega-narrative, and William Calvin has once again given us a feast of new perspectives, enriching the vision of our future as much as our past."

Synopsis Mirrors by : Eduardo Galeano
In Mirrors, Galeano smashes aside the narrative of conventional history and arranges the shards into a new pattern, to reveal the past in radically altered form. From the Garden of Eden to twenty-first-century cityscapes, we glimpse fragments in the lives of those who have been overlooked by traditional histories: the artists, the servants, the gods and the visionaries, the black slaves who built the White House, and the women who were bartered for dynastic ends

Synopsis Into the Wild by : Jon Krakauer
NATIONAL BESTSELLER • In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. Four months later, his decomposed body was found by a moose hunter. This is the unforgettable story of how Christopher Johnson McCandless came to die. "It may be nonfiction, but Into the Wild is a mystery of the highest order." —Entertainment Weekly McCandess had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself. Not long after, he was dead. Into the Wild is the mesmerizing, heartbreaking tale of an enigmatic young man who goes missing in the wild and whose story captured the world’s attention. Immediately after graduating from college in 1991, McCandless had roamed through the West and Southwest on a vision quest like those made by his heroes Jack London and John Muir. In the Mojave Desert he abandoned his car, stripped it of its license plates, and burned all of his cash. He would give himself a new name, Alexander Supertramp, and, unencumbered by money and belongings, he would be free to wallow in the raw, unfiltered experiences that nature presented. Craving a blank spot on the map, McCandless simply threw the maps away. Leaving behind his desperate parents and sister, he vanished into the wild. Jon Krakauer constructs a clarifying prism through which he reassembles the disquieting facts of McCandless's short life. Admitting an interest that borders on obsession, he searches for the clues to the drives and desires that propelled McCandless. When McCandless's innocent mistakes turn out to be irreversible and fatal, he becomes the stuff of tabloid headlines and is dismissed for his naiveté, pretensions, and hubris. He is said to have had a death wish but wanting to die is a very different thing from being compelled to look over the edge. Krakauer brings McCandless's uncompromising pilgrimage out of the shadows, and the peril, adversity, and renunciation sought by this enigmatic young man are illuminated with a rare understanding—and not an ounce of sentimentality. Into the Wild is a tour de force. The power and luminosity of Jon Krakauer's stoytelling blaze through every page.

Synopsis On the Labrador by : Arnold Zageris
Why Labrador? One of my most persistent memories of this rarely seen part of Canada has been northern Labrador's vastness, isolation and wildness. Far from busy roads or crowded villages the Kiglapaits, Kaumajets and Torngat mountains rise from a deep cold sea, isolated, ice-covered and bare. Misty fjords, towering cliffs and dark lost valleys hold secrets long hidden and remain so. Here long ago Vikings passed and Inuit hunted. Today it lies waiting to be discovered. This is not a land as Sebastian Cabot once said "God gave to Cain" but a land that will seduce you by its sheer grandeur and beauty. Everyone takes pictures to bring back memories of times and places that moved them. The greater the emotional impact or involvement the greater is the need to preserve them. Precious memories fade quickly and become fleeting. My experience with Labrador has been long and intense. Compiling the images of sixteen trips refreshes old memories and allows stories to re-surface that are just wanting to be told. A book gels this mosaic of emotions, discoveries and feelings. There is also a joy and satisfaction in sharing my images and the experience of my voyages with others who can travel vicariously or plan trips of their own. A book would open a dialogue with kindred spirits, artists and travellers alike and the beauty of Labrador would not be lost but twice shared.

Synopsis Antarctica by : Arnold Zageris
Breathtaking in its superlatives, Antarctica mesmerizes visitors with its compelling beauty, awe-inspiring landscapes and imposing grandeur. No continent is its equal. Antarctica has the heights, the winds, the climate and the aridity. Moreover, its ever-changing and elusive light can paint and transform the spectacle with often fantastical shapes and colours. From the delicate tingling sounds of tiny ice crystals, to the majesty of its towering peaks, and the ferocity of its relentless storms Antarctica animates, inspires, and humbles.
