Synopsis Hymns for the Children of the Church by : Emily Ayckbowm
Excerpt from Hymns for the Children of the Church: With Accompanying Tunes Great pains have been taken to trace the owners of copyright tunes, and obtain their permission to print. Should any copyright have been unwittingly infringed, the Editors trust that the error may be pointed out, in order to correct the omission in a future issue. It is our privilege through the medium of this Preface to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Henry Smith, Organist at the Children's Eucharist, St. Augustine's, Kilburn, for his untiring energy during the last three years in behalf of this work. We cannot but feel that without his kind, painstaking aid and suggestions we could not have carried it through. Synopsis The Church School Hymnal with Tunes (Classic Reprint) by : W. Rix Attwood
Excerpt from The Church School Hymnal With Tunes The conviction is strong in some minds that children should-be taught only the hymns of the book authorized by the General Convention to be used in the services of the Sanctuary. It must, however, be admitted that many of these hymns are in advance of child life and thought, and the tunes often too intricate for a child's experience, or appreciation. Synopsis Hymns for Schools and Families by : Thomas Osmond Summers
Excerpt from Hymns for Schools and Families: Specially Designed for the Children of the Church This collection of Hymns is specially designed for the children of the Church. Its publication does not, of course, intimate that the young people are not to use the Hymn Books employed in Public, Social, and Domestic Worship; but as there are many hymns in those books which are not suitable to the young; and as there are many juvenile hymns which were purposely excluded from them, that have been admitted into the present volume, it is hoped that it will not be considered a superfluous addition to the psalmody of the Church. A very few of the hymns are original: a number are taken from our Church Hymn Books: the rest have been collected from a variety of sources, the names of the authors, when known, being prefixed. Synopsis The Welcome by : New Jerusalem Church
Excerpt from The Welcome: A Book of Hymns, Songs and Lessons for the Children of the New Church We trust, too, that the Welcome will find its way into many homes where few or no privileges of public worship and religious instruction are enjoyed, and there be a messenger of love and truth from the Holy city, which descends out of Heaven from God. Synopsis Hymns of the Kingdom of God by : Henry Sloane Coffin
Excerpt from Hymns of the Kingdom of God: With Tunes A small selection of children's hymns has been included because, while the editors believe that children should be taught the great hymns in the Sunday School, and so trained to join in the public worship of the Church, they also believe that in the Church service a hymn should occasionally be sung, which is especially adapted to their religious experience, in order that they may feel at home in the house of God. Such hymns often help older people to turn and become as little children. This hymnal is sent forth in the hope that it will assist the Church of to-day to praise God heartily, intelligently and sincerely, to sing with the Spirit and with the understanding hymns which utter living convictions and which consecrate those who sing them to the purpose of Jesus Christ. Synopsis Childrens̕ Praise by :
Excerpt from Childrens̕ Praise: A Book of Prayers and Hymns for the Children of the Church Come unto/ me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. There remaineth therefore a rest for the people of God. Let us labor to enter into that rest. The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth. Synopsis Songs of the Church by : Charles Seymour Robinson
Excerpt from Songs of the Church: Or Hymns and Tunes for Christian Worship The history and purpose of the following Collection of Hymns and Tunes may be sufficiently set forth in a few words. It has been prepared by a pastor; for the use, primarily, of the church to which it is his privilege to minister, in their public and private worship of almighty God. The Book is now offered to the Christian public, in the thought that what has thus been compiled for one congregation may, perhaps, be found acceptable and useful in others like it. Synopsis Hymns for the Church and Home (Classic Reprint) by : William Fleming Stevenson
Excerpt from Hymns for the Church and Home Editor has been guided not only by the merits of the hymn, but by its subject. Many hymns have been excluded, not because they are inferior to those that were adopted, but because the subject was already sufficiently illustrated, and some, be cause, however admirable, they were not so simple as that the poor and unleamed of the congregation could make them their own. In the hymns for Family and Private Worship, this rule has not been so strictly followed, and the line between the two parts has not been so rigidly drawn but that some hymns in each will be found admissible in the other. A place has also been found here for some which, however broad and congregational in their character, yet, being translations and in unfamiliar metres, have not become rooted among us; and one or two, such as 427, would have been inserted in the first part, but that it was already in type. The hymns for Children have been separately numbered, to prevent those who use them from being puzzled by what would otherwise have been the highest figures; but they are an integral part of the book, from which they are not intended to be detached, and which necessarily includes in its other divisions hymns which children ought to know. Synopsis Hymns for Sunday-Schools, Youth, and Children (Classic Reprint) by : Methodist Episcopal Church
Excerpt from Hymns for Sunday-Schools, Youth, and Children Sunday-schools are the acknowledged nurseries of the Church of Christ. In them the children of the Church should be taught the songs of Zion. Hitherto both Sunday-schools and churches have been embarrassed for lack of a hymn-book which they might use in common. Sunday-school Hymn. Books have lacked variety, and church hymn-books have been deficient in hymns adapted to Sunday schools. A two-fold expenditure, and a wide dis' similarity between the hymn-books of Sunday schools and those of the congregations in which they worshipped, were among the results of using both classes of books. The desideratum was a church hymn-book that should embrace a sufficient number of children's hymns for Sunday-school purposes, and a Sunday school hymn-book that might be parchfied either bound with the standard hymn-book of the Church, or separately in a cheap form.
