Synopsis Overcoming World Hunger by : United States. Presidential Commission on World Hunger
Abstract: A report of the Presidential Commission on World Hunger concludes that U.S. efforts to alleviate hunger are necessary, both to national security and to global peace. The Commission's major recommendation is that the U.S. government make the elimination of world hunger the primary focus of its relations with developing countries; this entails a reordering of national priorities. An analysis of the causes and future implications of world hunger suggests that its elimination will require a combination of approaches and substantial resources. Strong American development-assistance activities, (both short- and long-term) are needed to achieve an adequate world food supply. Actions to improve the international economic setting and combat hunger involve trade, debt, corporate involvement, and world food security policies. Domestic hunger and malnutrition are also addressed. Nutrition surveillance, continued support of domestic food programs, and public education are recommended methods for overcoming hunger at home. Synopsis The Appetite Awareness Workbook by : Linda Craighead
People with normal eating patterns eat when they are hungry and stop when they are full. But people struggling with binge eating relate very differently to this most basic need, often risking depression, gastrointestinal problems, and even death because of their problems with food. The Appetite Awareness Workbook offers an eight-week, cognitively based program to help you learn to pay attention to hunger cues, keep track of your feelings about food, and develop an eating schedule that discourages binge eating. In a series of easy exercises, the book guides you toward taking control of eating habits. First, gradual changes help you eat only when hungry or when a mealtime is scheduled. Then, awareness exercises help you stop eating when moderately full. Finally, by using cognitive techniques to control the tendency to eat for emotional reasons and journaling exercises to stay motivated and on track, you'll learn how to retrain yourself to maintain normal and healthy eating habits for life.

Synopsis Hidden Hunger by : H.K. Biesalski
Malnutrition caused by deficiencies of vitamins and minerals - also called hidden hunger - impairs both the intellectual and physical development of a child. Due to the absence of clinical symptoms and assessments, no intervention can be staged. The tragedy is that this, in turn, decreases the child’s chance to escape from poverty. This book looks at malnutrition in high-income countries, the nutrition transition and nutritional deficiencies in low-income countries, consequences of hidden hunger, and interventions to improve nutrition security. Written by leading experts in the field, it clearly stresses that national governments and international organizations must make malnutrition one of their top priorities in order to provide children with optimal conditions for a healthy future.

Synopsis Hunger Trilogy by : Ruowang Wang
This autobiographical novella was written in 1980 by one of China's leading dissidents, who was released from jail in late October 1990 again after being imprisoned as a pro-democracy activist in the wake of the Tiananmen incident of spring 1989. Wang recounts three episodes of extreme hardship in his life: incarceration in a Guomindang jail during the 1930s for his communist activism, on the run from Japanese troops during the 1940s in a bleak part of Shandong Province, and imprisonment as a "rightist" in Shanghai during the 1960s cultural revolution. The central theme of the three stories is extreme deprivation and "Hunger."
