Several points have been kept constantly in mind first, to present all the facts which are of real importance for the stu dent, -a point often neglected in the aide-memoire and similar books; second, to express these facts in the briefest and clearest lan guage, omitting all points and phrases which, though they might add interest or literary merit, are not strictly required and third, to arrange the facts in such a way that the reader, in considering any organ, may, if he will, actually sketch each part described as he proceeds, and thus make a diagrammatic plan or picture of the entire structure; this will obviously be possible for those students only who have seriously followed a regular course in histology. It is for such students that this book is intended, and not for those who have neglected their work and are anxious to acquire in a few hours facts enough to pass an examination.
