Synopsis Honest Lies and Shaded Truth by : Mary Bowers
Honesty is my moral compass, which is grounded and rooted upon a solid and stable foundation. My sense of integrity, self-worth, and self-confidence is not dependent on the outside world, but it is an internal feeling. This feeling cannot be emulated. You have to build one for yourself. Learn to focus on more than the outer appearance of things, and use a soft focus on the senses you have been divinely blessed with. Believe me, there is always much more to a story than meets the eye and ear. Listen to your breathing and heartbeat, and then you will become aware of the rhythms around you. Mix all of the ingredients with a hungry thirst for knowledge and a curious mind, and it will help you build your moral compass of honesty.

Synopsis After Montaigne by : Michel Montaigne
Writers of the modern essay can trace their chosen genre all the way back to Michel de Montaigne (1533-92). But save for the recent notable best seller How to Live: A Life of Montaigne by Sarah Bakewell, Montaigne is largely ignored. After Montaigne--a collection of twenty-four new personal essays intended as tribute-- aims to correct this collective lapse of memory and introduce modern readers and writers to their stylistic forebear. Though it's been over four hundred years since he began writing his essays, Montaigne's writing is still fresh, and his use of the form as a means of self-exploration in the world around him reads as innovative--even by modern standards. He is, simply put, the writer to whom all essayists are indebted. Each contributor has chosen one of Montaigne's 107 essays and has written his/her own essay of the same title and on the same theme, using a quote from Montaigne's essay as an epigraph. The overall effect is akin to a covers album, with each writer offering his or her own interpretation and stylistic verve to Montaigne's themes in ways that both reinforce and challenge the French writer's prose, ideas, and forms. Featuring a who's who of contemporary essayists, After Montaigne offers a startling engagement with Montaigne and the essay form while also pointing the way to the genre's potential new directions. Synopsis When a Lie Is Not a Sin by : Dennis S. Ross
The difference between truth and falsehood is often clear and simple. But when life gets complicated, the Hebrew Bible can help. The Hebrew Bible is true and wants us to tell the truth, even as biblical characters behave in less than truthful ways. What's more, where some of the lies people tell in the Hebrew Bible stories are punished, others are ignored and still others are rewarded. The Hebrew Bible’s mixed-message of "Do as I say, not as they do" shows that lies―little and big, whether told to protect or advance oneself or when intended to preserve the peace―often occur under involved circumstances and demand careful consideration. By viewing an array of situations in light of the Hebrew Bible―from the routine but delicate to the once-in-a-lifetime dilemma―this book will make a difference in how you think and live. This candid look at religion and truthfulness is ideal for anyone interested in exploring the religious basis for personal decision making, conscience and morality, including Jews of all denominations personally or in Torah study groups, Christians and social justice activists.

Synopsis MC: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Job by : Gary Holloway
In a world bombarded with information, what we long for is knowing how to live well-what the Bible calls wisdom. Meditate on the Wisdom books of the Bible to hear the source of wisdom-the God who made us. In these meditations we will hear the established wisdom passed down from earlier generations. These nuggets of wisdom are found in the book of Proverbs. A proverb is a traditional saying, and as such, proverbs are didactic, optimistic, practical, and conservative. Ecclesiastes contains a different kind of wisdom, built on the wisdom of Proverbs, but which asks what happens when proverbial wisdom fails. Ecclesiastes looks at the mysteries of life. It is reflective, speculative, pessimistic, and creative. It asks the hard questions, like how does life make sense? It explains that often, it doesn't. Plans fail. Fools triumph. We must trust God especially when things don't make sense. That deeper spirituality is put to the test in Job. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." This is a repeated theme in Proverbs. Job experiences a deeper fear of the Lord, one based on trust alone. By meditating on the ordeals of Job, we are brought closer to a God we might not like and do not understand. The only God we have. Meditating on these books will at times be a joy. At other times, meditation will be a challenge. Wisdom does not come easy. But it is a marvelous gift of God.

Synopsis Kingonomics by : Rodney Sampson
While most know of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s sweeping dream of equality and freedom for all, what many do not realize is just how keenly focused he was on economic issues, particularly in his later years. Dr. King believed without economic opportunity, we do not have the chance to pursue happiness. It was, in fact, while planning the Poor People's March, a dramatic stand on economic issues, that his voice was forever silenced. In his final book, Dr. King posed the question, where do we go from here? The answer lies in Kingonomics, a 21st-century interpretation of his economic vision translated through the eyes of Dr. Rodney Sampson, a globally established economic innovator, business developer, and highly successful serial entrepreneur. With 12 currencies (including service, innovation, and reciprocity), Sampson takes pertinent ideas from the life and works of Dr. King and, by combining them with real-life experiences, produces a guide through which one can realize their full potential and personal power. Success does not discriminate, and the road map to it is contained in the pages of this revolutionary new work.
