Synopsis Home Life in Spain (Classic Reprint) by : S. L. Bensusan

Excerpt from Home Life in Spain My acquaintance with Spain dates back nearly twenty years. Since the first trip to Andalusia, taken on a tramp steamer that still fills a leading role when I suffer from nightmare, I have revisited the south half a dozen times and lived awhile in centre, north, and east. On several occasions holiday-making has provided the sole excuse for a visit, but I have acted as special correspondent to two daily papers, and this work gave me my first insight into the working of Spain's political machine. Of the fascination of the country and the charm of the people there is little set down in the following pages, not that it is possible to forget either, but because many pens have made the recital more tedious than a twice told tale. In the preparation of this volume I have relied for the most part upon memory and Charles Rudy. He it is who has set me right when memory tired or sought to play me false; in his pleasant company I still recall incidents of half-forgotten days and nights spent in the most fascinating country in Europe. Synopsis Daily Life in Spain in the Golden Age by : Marcelin Defourneaux

A book about life in Spain from the succession of Philip II (1556) to the death of Philip IV (1665). The author relies primarily upon careful use of literary works and travel accounts written during this 'golden age'. In addition to delightful descriptions and anecdotes, he has woven into his text important political and economic developments. He provides a general view of Spain, stressing the importance of the Catholic faith and the emphasis upon personal honour, before surveying life and society in urban and rural areas. He then examines in some detail life in the Church, university, military and home; public entertainment; and the picaresque life.

Synopsis Spain - Culture Smart! by : Culture Smart!

Don't just see the sights—get to know the people. In the popular imagination Spain conjures up a picture of rapacious conquistadores, fiery flamenco dancers, and brilliant artists. All true enough but how closely does everyday life in modern Spain conform to these dramatic stereotypes? Culture Smart! Spain explores the complex human realities of contemporary Spanish life. It describes how Spain s history and geography have created both strongly felt regional differences and shared values and attitudes. It reveals what the Spaniards are like at home, and in business, how they socialize, and how to build lasting relationships with them. The better you understand the Spanish people, the more you will be enriched by your experience of this vital, warm, and varied country where the individual is important, and the enjoyment of life is paramount. Have a richer and more meaningful experience abroad through a better understanding of the local culture. Chapters on history, values, attitudes, and traditions will help you to better understand your hosts, while tips on etiquette and communicating will help you to navigate unfamiliar situations and avoid faux pas.
