Synopsis Home Bases by : Sean C. Kelly
Home Bases: Memories & Stories of US Military Bases Around London is a book that, for the first time, puts the spotlight on the history of many of the US Military's lesser known command and support bases that were located either in or close to London, England. The bases (often known as 'Little Americas') are furthermore brought to life in a series of 'snapshot' memories by around 40 people who either served, worked or were involved in everything from establishing them to demolishing them. The book is a 'swords to ploughshares' look at the bases as they proliferated through WWII and the Cold War before many were closed and handed back to Britain's Ministry of Defence which, subsequently, has sold a number of sites on for redevelopment as housing and mixed-use destinations. Home Bases is, in essence a love letter to those places and times.

Synopsis Bases to Bleachers by : Eric C. Gray
One day during an afternoon at the ball park, author Eric Gray asked his wife, daughter, and friend to identify their favorite game that they had been to. Little did he know, that simple question would soon take on a life of its own. As the question made its way to family members, friends, friends of friends, strangers and beyond, it gave way to a surprising collection of incredibly diverse stories and perspectives. Thus, Bases to Bleachers was born. Much more than your average baseball book, the many special and unique stories shared with readers here, whether they're about watching or playing, either at the Major League level or Little League, represent a wide gamut of experiences. Some entail meeting the stars or attending famous games--and some offered are personal, intimate moments involving family connections and the importance of baseball in people's lives. Unlike most baseball books, this is not a biography, or a discussion of a team, or analysis of a season. Baseball here is a setting in which both astounding feats and some of the most beautifully touching moments in peoples' lives have happened. Whether it's the first game, falling in love at the park, or even a beloved baseball glove that survived World War II, these stories are about more than just baseball. They reflect the joys, triumphs, and disappointments of the human condition, and often illustrate what's truly important in life--those things we hold most dear in our hearts.

Synopsis Bases Abroad by : Robert E. Harkavy
Analyzing the modern status of military bases and the diplomacy that defines their location and access, this book explores the global basing networks of the world's major military powers--their type, location, and the politics and economics of their acquisition. It provides data on armaments, intelligence, communications, research, and space facilities; tables and maps that display U.S. and Soviet global networks; and the various military roles and nuclear deterrence capabilities for global power projection and support of client states in the Third World. Harkavy also discusses emerging political and technological developments that could alter basing diplomacy.
