Synopsis Holman Old Testament Commentary - 1, 2 Samuel by : Stephen J. Andrews
No other reference series gets to the heart of the Old Testament as efficiently as the Holman Old Testament Commentary. When a reader’s time allows, the series offers a detailed interpretation based on the popular New International Version text. When time is short, it delivers an essential understanding of the Old Testament with unsurpassed clarity and convenience. 1,2 Samuel is the final volume in the 32-book Old and New Testament series and insightfully magnifies the grace of God that is greater than all our sin through the story of David who, despite his failings, would become a man after God’s own heart and the model for all future kings.

No other book in the Bible compares with the wonder of the sacred collection of inspired worship songs known as the Psalms. Considered by many to be the most loved portion of Scripture, the Psalms have been a bedrock of comfort and a tower of strength for believers in every experience of life. This is the second of two volumes in the Holman Old Testament Commentary given to the Psalms, that provide commentary on Psalms chapters 76-150. Some of the key Psalms receive an added in-depth treatment that includes exposition, illustrations, and teaching plans. - http://www.christianbook.com

Synopsis The Old Testament Prophetic Books by : Israel P. Loken
The Old Testament Prophetic Books: An Introduction is a valuable reference tool designed for those students who want a comprehensive guide to the Old Testament prophetic books. The book serves primarily as an introduction, providing a thorough discussion of introductory matters such as authorship, date, historical background, purpose, structure, and outline. The book also functions as a sort of survey/handbook, providing a summary of the contents of each book accompanied by helpful background information such as the meaning of character's names and the dates of significant events. Finally, the book acts as a study guide, providing a series of study questions at the end of each chapter for review and discussion. Israel P. Loken is Chair and Professor of the Bible and Theology Departments at College of Biblical Studies. He is also Adjunct Professor of Bible Exposition at Dallas Theological Seminary. He previously taught at Dallas Christian College. Dr. Loken has earned degrees from Lancaster Bible College (B.S.) and Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M. and Ph.D.). He is a frequent speaker at churches, conferences, and schools. He is the author of the Loken Expositional Commentary series. Dr. Loken and his wife Kimberley live in Houston, TX.
