Synopsis The Brotherhood by : Anslem Osasuyi
The Brotherhood is an intriguing story of a matrix of the deadly operations of Nigerian university cult gangs and religious groups set in one of the most populous black nation’s foremost university. Capone Aboy, the head of the Black Eagles confraternity had planned to make his group the most respected and feared confraternity on campus. In order to achieve this, he had to raise funds, manipulate the political system of the Students Union Government and weaken rival confraternities. Everything was taking shape, until Sister Evelyn, a Christian fellowship leader came across his part. Although her effort to get him ‘born again’ was unsuccessful, a strange relationship had developed between the two. Things were going well for the confraternity until a series of errors by their hit-man triggered a bloody chain reaction which led to the death of several people, including Capone Aboy’s cousin. A cult war ensued leading to a trail of blood, deaths and destruction. In the moment of victory by the Black Eagles confraternity, Capone Aboy came to realize that despite achieving his desire on campus, his life was empty, and the only thing that meant anything to him was his love for Sister Evelyn.

Synopsis God's Harvard by : Hanna Rosin
Behind the scenes at Patrick Henry College: “A deft and honest narrative of evangelical education . . . historical background, close observation and skeptical wit” (Publishers Weekly). One of the Christian Science Monitor’s annual “Books We Liked Best” Take a walk down the halls and into the dorms and hearts of tiny Patrick Henry College, a Christian school just outside the nation’s capital, where ambitious young evangelicals are groomed to become tomorrow’s conservative elite. The future front lines of politics, entertainment, and science will be commanded by these idealistic graduates, who plan to lead the battle in reclaiming a godless nation. God’s Harvard reveals the evangelical movement at a moment of crisis and climax, its future leaders struggling to resist the temptations of modern life even as they try to remake the world in their image. This is a vibrant, insightful look at kids who may very well be in charge of our country one day. “A rare accomplishment for many reasons—perhaps most of all because Rosin is a journalist who not only reports but also observes deeply.” —San Francisco Chronicle “Rosin is at her best when chronicling sympathetically the lives of these young evangelicals, as ambitious as their secular peers but single-minded in their focus on politics.” —Chicago Tribune “Nuanced and highly readable . . . With her feisty, richly detailed prose.” —The Washington Post

Synopsis The Life of John Berryman by : John Haffenden
First published in 1982, The Life of John Berryman draws on extensive research in the USA and on an enormous collection of hitherto unpublished materials – journals, letters, stories and poetry –to build a biography that recounts in absorbing detail the public and private stages of John Berry man’s career. It also offers an intimate portrait of a creative artist: his compulsive self-presentation and self-reproach, his moral and artistic dilemmas, his dedication and his accomplishments. John Berryman occupies a central place among the outstanding poets of recent times. The course of his life ran between the extremes of personal degradation and artistic ecstasy. He suffered the early suicide of his father, the dominance of his mother, poverty and professional setbacks, psychiatric treatment, alcoholism, and sexual and spiritual vexation. He became an electrifying, fearful teacher and a loving, jealous friend. His mentors and close associates included Mark Van Doren, Richard Blackmur, Allen Tate, Robert Lowell and Saul Bellow. The years brought him spells of deep personal joy and artistic fulfilment, but all too heavy a hand of terrible suffering. The book will be an extremely interesting read for students of literature.
