On September 14, 1918, near the end of World War I, a Wisconsin farm family found their lives torn apart for refusing to fight in a war overseas. Their home was surrounded and shot up that day by lawmen and neighbors in what Frank Krueger later dubbed "a patriotic frenzy." With one man dead and several injured, two of the four Krueger brothers suffered the consequences with life imprisonment while their youngest brother disappeared.
