Along the way, travelers will find historic forts, residences of leading citizens, old iron furnaces, grist mills, churches, inns, taverns, tanneries, and many other intriguing places. Historians Lois Mulkearn and Edwin V. Pugh personally visited each site, and provide background vignettes on them, offering interesting facts and highlights gathered from archival documents.

John Long (Johannes Lang) was born 10 June 1693 at Zennern, Hesse, Ger- many, married Anna Schnebele, emigrated to the U.S. in 1722, and died 5 Feb. 1767 in Manheim Township, Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania.

George Phillip Metzger married Anna Louise Juliana Broombaugh and immi- grated in 1760 from Germany to land near Morrison's Cove, Pennsyl- vania. The family later moved to Mill Creek near Cincinnati, Ohio. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Washington, California and elsewhere.
