History of the County of Ayr by James Paterson, first published in 1847, is a rare manuscript, the original residing in one of the great libraries of the world. Six Ochiltree families immigrated from Scotland or Ireland to the United States. The principal family dealt with in this book is that of Matthew Ochiltree (d. 1798), who immigrated from County Armagh, Ireland to Delaware about 1760. He married Mary Maxwell in 1761. Some descendants moved to West Virginia, Ohio, Iowa, Indianna, Kansas and elsewhere. Also include information on the following families: Gilmore, Hays, Lackey, Leech, Ramsey, Wilson.
