Synopsis She's All Caught Up by : Jamila T. Davis
She's All Caught Up is a cautionary tale for young people enamored by the fast life and the older folks that love them. This memoir tells of the negative influences that swayed the early life of author Jamila T. Davis (creator of the Voices of Consequences Enrichment Series). She is currently serving a 151 month sentence for her role in a multi-million dollar bank fraud scheme. Young Jamila grew up in a loving, middle class home. Her hardworking parents, the Davises, overcame the barriers of poverty and racism faced by African Americans in the segregated South. From the back wood shacks of the rural south, the Davises migrated north, making Jamaica Queens, New York their new home. They drove themselves relentlessly. By education and endless hard work, they attained their portion of the American dream. Determined to afford their own children the opportunities they themselves never had, the Davises provided their children with a good life, hoping to guarantee their children's success.

Synopsis Unbreakable Spirit by : Charlotte Williams
I was getting into my car, which was parked in my driveway, to depart for work when all a sudden, this man I knew for so many years approached me and said, We need to talk. I need to get going for work. I will call you later, I replied in a rush. Then before I can even finish my sentence, he pulled out this big gun and aimed it straight at me. I stood there looking directly into the barrel of that gun, and I began to start shaking like a leaf. It was the most frightening thing I ever had to endure. I was so petrified that I could see my life flash right before my eyes. Just before he pulled the trigger, he had this mad-dog look on his face, and the sound of his voice was so bizarre that it sounded like the devil himself was talking to me. This was not like anything that I had ever heard before. In that same bizarre voice, he said this to me: This is for not helping me mentally and financially. Then abruptly he shot me in my right leg. Normally when you get shot in the leg, you fall and the gunshot takes your leg from right under you. But instead of me falling, I started running. I think that if I were at a track meet, I wouldve won that race, regardless of what type of race it was. I saw the smoke steaming out of the gun, and I could smell my flesh burning, as if someone had slapped some fresh meat on the grill. I felt consistent sharp pains shooting through my body, and then suddenly it felt like my whole body was on fire. I would never wish that pain on anyone, even my worst enemy.

Synopsis Sex and Stravinsky by : Barbara Trapido
Brilliant Australian Caroline can command everyone except her own ghoulish mother, which means that things aren't easy for Josh and Zoe, her husband with Stravinsky-glasses and twelve-year-old daughter. Zoe reads girls' ballet books and longs for lessons; a thing denied her until a chance encounter on a school French exchange. Meanwhile, on the east coast of Africa, Hattie, Josh's first love, now writes girls' ballet books when she can carve out time when she isn't caring for her husband and her crosspatch daughter. From far and wide, they are all drawn together: a masquerade in which things are not always what they seem. Elizabeth Gilbert on Barbara Trapido: "Why did it take me so long to discover the singular joys of Barbara Trapido's novels? Why, for so many years, had I missed these witty, soulful, heartbreaking, expansive, brilliant tales? I have become a literary evangelist on her behalf. On account of my badgering, all my friends now love her, too. I won't rest until everyone in America has read (and fallen in love with) this fabulous author." --Elizabeth Gilbert
