Synopsis Rock Creek by : John R. Riggs

Set in mythical Rock County, Indiana, home of The Festival and its world famous covered bridges, Rock Creek is a morally tale that pits good against evil, while exploring all of the gray areas in between. When Sean Morgan's first love and high school sweetheart is brutally raped and murdered, he returns home from his year long sabbatical to a hostile welcome and the nightmare of living without her. At first unable to cope, he begins a downward spiral that nearly costs him his life, before he recovers to begin an eight year odyssey that takes him from “deranged hippie” to Sheriff of Rock County in the search for her killer. That search will involve three talented, beautiful women who will hold his feet to the fire; the Rock Creek Stalker, a local legend and a threat to all who enter his domain; and a path of betrayal and deceit that can only end on the killer's terms. As Sean Morgan soon learns, it's hard to trust anyone, including those you love, when he or she has her own secrets to hide, and misplaced trust can lead you everywhere you don't want to go, including the jaws of death.

Synopsis Rock Creek Unincorporated by : David Dee Cantley

When David Cantley asked me to write about him for the autobiography on which he was working, it took me about three seconds to say, “Yes.” I consider him to be one of the most extraordinary people I have ever met and felt honored to be able to share my thoughts with others. In The History of Lake Worth High School, I wrote this about his two decades as principal, “Without his guidance, the school might very well have been shut down.” I believed that strongly then, and I still believe it as strongly today. In May of 1980, Cantley became Lake Worth High’s fifth principal during the 1979-80 school year. He took charge of a school that had deteriorated tremendously in the quarter-century since my class had graduated. The campus was overcrowded, and plagued with disorder. White students were fleeing, and academics were lagging. The first thing he did was restore discipline. After that, he instituted magnet programs to arrest the white flight. Finally, he spearheaded efforts to get the campus rebuilt and enlarged. By the time he retired in 1999, the school was a model for how things should be done in secondary education. Along the way, he worked to help the less fortunate achieve an education. He had known hard times as a youngster, and he never forgot his roots. He was instrumental in founding the flea market held beneath I-95 that provided scholarships, school supplies and other aid to those in need. The year he retired, he was a key figure in organizing the Lake Worth High School Alumni Foundation and Lake Worth Dollars for Scholars. The latter has distributed over $1 million in scholarships as of 2017. I can’t say anything about David Cantley before his Lake Worth High years, because I didn’t know him then. But this book fills in the gaps and gives me a better feel about how he became the outstanding man he is. William E. “Bill” McGoun, Ph.D.

Notable teen experts and stellar practitioners from across the country explain why library service to adolescents in this age range is so important, and how you can enhance your collection and services to accommodate and win over this important group. Topics range from understanding adolescent informational needs and building and promoting a winning collection, to creating programs with tween appeal. Contributors include Sheila B. Anderson, James Rosinia, Deb Taylor, Robyn Lupa, and Kristine Mahood. Brimming with valuable insights and fresh ideas, as well as nuts and bolts directions, this is a must read for all librarians who work with young adolescents. If someone is described as a young adult, what image comes to mind? In fact, a young adult can be a twelve-year-old middle-schooler or a high school graduate. Libraries have traditionally offered a variety programs and services for YAs, and although more emphasis has been given to serving teens in recent years, little has been done to distinguish between groups within the category, and meet the specific developmental needs of this broad range of library users. This collection complements Anderson's previous collection, Serving Older Teens, by focusing on the needs of tweens and young teens, ages 11-14. This is the age range when many young people stop using the library and lose interest in reading.
