Recent measurements in exclusive hadronic B decays to states with charm are presented, including a review of the B {yields} D{sub sJ}D{sup (*)} decays, and a study of the B{sup -} {yields} J/{psi} K{sup -} {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} decay looking for charmonium resonances. New results are shown on the search of the B{sup 0} {yields} D{sub s}{sup +} {rho}{sup -} and B{sup 0} {yields} J/{psi}{gamma} decays. These analysis are based on the 1999-2003 dataset collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.

A wealth of new measurements of hadronic B decays to open charm and charmonium have been performed on the data sample collected by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} B-factory. We report the first measurement of the rates for inclusive charm production separately for charged and neutral B mesons. Combining measurements of the decay rate of B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sub s}{sup +}D*{sup -} obtained with a partial reconstruction technique and the complete reconstruction of B{sup 0} {yields} D*{sub s}{sup +}D*{sup -} with D{sub s}{sup +} {yields} {phi}{pi}{sup +}, we obtain the most precise measurement of {Beta}(D{sub s}{sup +} {yields} {phi}{pi}{sup +}). We present an update of the measurements of the branching fractions of exclusive B decays to J/{psi}, {psi}(2S), {chi}{sub c1}, {chi}{sub c2} and a kaon or a K*. In addition, we show preliminary results on exclusive decay rates to final states with baryons, or newly-discovered particles, such as D*{sub sJ}(2317), D{sub sJ}(2460){sup +}, and the X(3872).

In this paper the studies of three different B decays to hadronic states are presented. These results are based on 1999-2003 dataset collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II ee− storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The measurements are the hadronic branching fraction of B 2!J/[Psi]p{bar {Lambda}}, B° 2!J/[Psi]p{bar p}, B° 2!D*{sup {+-}} D{sup {-+}}, and the direct CP-asymmetry in B° 2!D°(CP)K− channels.

The BABAR collaboration has performed a number of measurements on hadronic B decays to charmonium and open charm mesons. Preliminary results based on a sample of nearly 23 million B {bar B} pairs, collected between October 1999 and October 2000, are reviewed. These include measurements of exclusive branching fractions and ratios of branching fractions, as well as angular distributions.

Using about 23M B[bar B] events collected in 1999-2000 with the BABAR detector, they report on the decays B[yields] D(*)[bar D](*)K and B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup+]D*[sup -]. The branching fractions of the low background decay modes B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup -] D(*)[sup 0]K[sup+] are determined to be[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup -] D[sup 0]K[sup+])= (2.8[+-] 0.7[+-] 0.5) x 10[sup -3] and[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup -]D*[sup 0]K[sup+])= (6.8[+-] 1.7[+-] 1.7) x 10[sup -3], where the first error quoted is statistical and the second systematic. Observation of a significant number of candidates in the color-suppressed decay mode B[sup+][yields] D*[sup+]D*[sup -] K[sup+] is reported with a branching fraction[Beta](B[sup+][yields] D*[sup+]D*[sup -] K[sup+])= (3.4[+-] 1.6[+-] 0.9) x 10[sup -3]. Decays of the type B[yields] D(*)[bar D](*) can be used to provide a measurement of the parameter sin2[beta] of the Unitarity Triangle. For this decay mode they measure a branching fraction of[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] D*[sup+]D*[sup -])= (8.0[+-] 1.6[+-] 1.2) x 10[sup -4].

In this paper recent results in the field of B meson decays to states containing charm are presented. These analyses are based on the 1999-2003 dataset collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II ee− storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Special attention is devoted to B decays to final states containing D mesons. In addition a few new results from B decays to charmonium states are reported.

The work is based on the analysis of the data collected at the BaBar experiment on the PEP-II collider at SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, California) between 1999 and 2002. The data sample collected corresponds at 122.1 ± 0.6 ± 1.3 millions of BBbar pairs. The observation by BaBar of the DsJ*(2317)+ and DsJ(2460)+ mesons, discovered in 2003, raised a lot of interest for the spectroscopy of charmed hadrons. l reviewed theoretical explanations and recent experimental results. In the first part of the thesis , l studied the reconstruction efficiency of low energy pions produced in the D* meson decay. In the second part I studied the production of the new DsJ particles in the hadronic decays of the B meson with two charm quarks. To reach this goal l developed the technique to reconstruct the decays B-->DsJD(*). After clear evidence of signal on all the decay modes under study (some of them seen for the first time in the world !), l estimated the number of signal events and l computed the corresponding branching ratios, after background rejection, reconstruction efficiency evaluatlon and systematic errors estimation. The order of magnitude of the branching ratios is 10/\-3; these values are slightly smaller than the corresponding of the decays B-->DsD(*) , expected of the same order in the factorisatlon hypothesis. Using angular analysis l measured the quantum numbers of DsJ(2460)+, obtaining a result compatible with the hypothesis JP=1+

I report on recent measurements from the Belle and BABAR collaborations on the decay of the B meson to hadronic final states without a charm quark. The study of the branching fractions and angular distributions of B meson decays to hadronic final states without a charm quark probes the dynamics of both the weak and strong interactions, and plays an important role in understanding CP Violation (CPV) in the quark sector. CP Violation at the B factories is described graphically by a triangle with sides formed from the CKM matrix elements V{sub qd}V*{sub qb} (q = u, c, t) and internal angles [alpha], [beta] [gamma] (or [phi]2, [phi]1, [phi]3). Discrepancies in the measured values of the sides and angles could be an indication of New Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) due to enhanced branching fractions or modified CP asymmetries. The experimental measurements of branching fractions, CP asymmetries, polarization and phases (both weak and strong) can be compared to theoretical models based on, for example, QCD factorization, SU(3) symmetry and Lattice QCD.

This book discusses the study of double charm B decays and the first observation of B0->D0D0Kst0 decay using Run I data from the LHCb experiment. It also describes in detail the upgrade for the Run III of the LHCb tracking system and the trigger and tracking strategy for the LHCb upgrade, as well as the development and performance studies of a novel standalone tracking algorithm for the scintillating fibre tracker that will be used for the LHCb upgrade. This algorithm alone allows the LHCb upgrade physics program to achieve incredibly high sensitivity to decays containing long-lived particles as final states as well as to boost the physics capabilities for the reconstruction of low momentum particles.
