Hailed as one of Agnon’s most significant works, A Guest for the Night depicts Jewish life in Eastern Europe after World War I. A man journeys from Israel to his hometown in Europe, saddened to find so many friends taken by war, pogrom, or disease. In this vanishing world of traditional values, he confronts the loss of faith and trust of a younger generation. This 1939 novel reveals Agnon’s vision of his people’s past, tragic present, and hope for the future. Synopsis The Wonderling by : Mira Bartok

In this extraordinary debut novel with its deft nod to Dickensian heroes and rogues, Mira Bartók tells the story of Arthur, a shy, fox-like foundling with only one ear and a desperate desire to belong, as he seeks his destiny. Have you been unexpectedly burdened by a recently orphaned or unclaimed creature? Worry not! We have just the solution for you! Welcome to the Home for Wayward and Misbegotten Creatures, an institution run by evil Miss Carbunkle, a cunning villainess who believes her terrified young charges exist only to serve and suffer. Part animal and part human, the groundlings toil in classroom and factory, forbidden to enjoy anything regular children have, most particularly singing and music. For the Wonderling, an innocent-hearted, one-eared, fox-like eleven-year-old with only a number rather than a proper name — a 13 etched on a medallion around his neck — it is the only home he has ever known. But unexpected courage leads him to acquire the loyalty of a young bird groundling named Trinket, who gives the Home’s loneliest inhabitant two incredible gifts: a real name — Arthur, like the good king in the old stories — and a best friend. Using Trinket’s ingenious invention, the pair escape over the wall and embark on an adventure that will take them out into the wider world and ultimately down the path of sweet Arthur’s true destiny. Richly imagined, with shimmering language, steampunk motifs, and gripping, magical plot twists, this high adventure fantasy is the debut novel of award-winning memoirist Mira Bartók and has already been put into development for a major motion picture.

Synopsis True Colors by : Anthony Haden-Guest

The Colors covers the past three decades of the American art scene, a period during which the prevailing artistic fashion has shifted as often as the focus of the Whitney Biennial, when art and money, talent and celebrity have often been confused. During this period, figures such as Julian Schnabel, Jeff Koons, and Keith Haring have crossed over from the rarefied world of high art into popular culture, and art dealers, like Hollywood power agents, have often claimed as much attention as those they represented. Anthony Haden-Guest has moved within this world, known the players, and delivers here an authoritative and deliciously inside account.Focusing on the lives and personalities of the art world's main players, and with a sure critical component, Haden-Guest gives us vivid portraits of the period's key artists as they strive to fulfill their ambitions. He does justice as well to the machinations of those who have come to control the larger drama -- the dealers, collectors, and museum curators. Filled with incredible anecdotes, dramatically told stories, and subtle critical assessments, True Colors tells the story of the art world that we have never heard before.

Synopsis The Resurrection of the Body and the Ruin of the World by : Paul Guest

"Paul Guest's lyricism ranges from mystical to self deprecation and sarcasm, and his The Resurrection of the Body and the Ruin of the World traverses a great distance. The collection is able to reference, among others, Godzilla, the poet's disability, science, and much more. The mysticism doesn't really come off as subject matter, but rather how the poet treats his subject matter. In "Invocation to Destructive Muses," Guest writes, Our poet writes for hours in the myth of quiet: / interruptions pile up like debris. Earthquakes happen. / They are canceled. Tsunamis lap under doors. / Sponged up. Beach Boys die. The poet feels bad / but not too bad. This is from a poem where the first seven words are, Be it Godzilla, King of the Monsters. Yet, of all the imagery of violent destruction, the persona of the poet starts peeking through, and Guest's particular talent is taking things that wouldn't ordinarily fit together, and making them work naturally. Other entries into Guest's first book are bluntly personal. "For a Long time I Have Wanted to Write a Handi-Capable Poem" best illustrates Guest's refusal to fall into a self-pity trap. He doesn't wave his disability in front of the reader, he just assumes his wheel chair is part of who he is. With that in mind, he chafes at disability political correctness: ... if I were the militant type, and I'm not, I might join / my brothers and sisters in disabledom and chain myself / in solidarity / to the Slurpee machine at the 7-Eleven, but they're idiots, / and I'd rather have a super-size grape Slurpee any day. / God, I've fallen into a cranky orbit. The poem also describes failed attempts to pick up women in bars as well as speaking at a conference entitled "Transitioning the Adolescent Disabled into Adulthood." Lines like these do well to balance the collection against its richly textured imagery. More importantly, lines like these, and the rest of the book, work hard to present a solidly original voice."--Author's website.

Synopsis Let There Be Wisdom in Truth by : Asif Shakoor

This book was written in good faith. The hope for humanity is the spirit of poetry with revelation of wisdom in truth. The vision of truth is the moral wisdom of life’s existence. The footsteps of our journey walk us toward wisdom to take us deep into the world. Let There Be Wisdom In Truth is to honor all who have lost their lives to the COVID-19 pandemic. We live in the most uncertain of times. These poems speak for the nameless voices taken away from us, to be forever silenced by their unfortunate fate. The art of healing is the soul of wisdom. Let There Be Wisdom In Truth is our moral consciousness which binds us to humanity. The wisdom of poetry is the fragrance of love. Poetry is the light that burns in our soul to liberate us from our caged existence. My first book, Let There Be Light in Darkness opens our eyes to the great truth of Sufi poetry. The second book, Let There Be Wisdom In Truth, opens the mind to seek and search for meaning and purpose in our existence. The doors to wisdom are opened and truth enters as our most welcomed guest.
