'Green space in the community' refers to the public space that is located in sections of residential land, often a space providing entertainment facilities and a place for the community to interact across various activities. AUTHOR: Born in 1964, Istanbul, Deniz Aslan received his doctoral degree in Istanbul Technical University, Institute of Science and Technology, Architectural Design Program. Aslan received the Young Architects Award (with Arda Inceoglu) for the projects Denizli Tennis Club and Ortakoy Jewish Cemetery. As part of 8 National Architecture Awards program, he received the National Architecture Award in project category for ABS Headquarters Building. He played an important role in establishing the Landscape Department in ITU Faculty of Architecture, and he continues his academic career as an instructor in the Architecture Department of the faculty. Aslan is the founding partner of DS Mimarlik (DS Architecture). Yossapon Boonsom is a Thai landscape architect and the director of Shma Company Limited. He received a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from Chulalongkorn University and continued his studies at a postgraduate level Master of Arts in Urban Management and Architectural Design at the University of Wales (Domus Academy, Milan). After completing his studies, he worked as a landscape architect in Singapore and Barcelona. Returning to Thailand in 2007, he established Shma Company Limited along with two partners, Mr. Namchai Saensupha and Mr. Prapan Napawongdee. Shma Company Limited is a Landscape Architectural design and research practice with a scope of work ranging from residential to urban planning with projects not only in Thailand but also expanding to Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and India. The provision of urban parks, recreation grounds and other green spaces can make a vital contribution to the quality of urban life and to the achievement of a range of Government objectives in relation to improved health, sustainable neighbourhood renewal and community cohesion, especially in more deprived areas. This NAO report examines the effectiveness of national policy initiatives on green space issues, focusing on progress made to assess the quality of urban green spaces, to improve financial management procedures, and to protect and enhance provision through the planning system. Overall, the report finds that the decline in quality of urban green spaces has been halted in most areas, with signs of recovery in many places. Greater priority for green space investment and new sources of funds from central government and the lottery have enabled local authorities and other public bodies, working in partnership with local communities, to bring about the refurbishment and renewal of many green spaces. However, surveys show that there is a wide variation between urban local authorities, and improvements need to be in relation to the sharing and application of good practice on green space management.

Urban green spaces are designed to facilitate interactions with nature for urban residents and provide a range of physical, mental, and social health benefits. This research supports the hypothesis that users of urban green spaces benefit in varying degrees based on factors such as park accessibility and maintenance, park design, and the opportunities the park itself offers. Participant and location observation were utilized to study the park's physical features and those characteristics which might attract or discourage visitors. An intercept survey was administered to users of the Cascade Locks Park in Akron, Ohio who were asked to answer a brief survey regarding park activity and perceived health benefits. The results of the 43 completed surveys were compiled, the data analyzed and maps created of the park. The conclusions demonstrate that users of green spaces feel that they benefit from park access by feeling healthier, happier, and physically stronger. By understanding the health consequences and benefits, managers and planners can make informed decisions on the appropriate design of green space for their community.
