A series of 33 charts illustrating the ice cover on the Great Lakes of North America for three classifications of winter: mild, normal and severe. Examines 20 years of temperature records for each lake, with six ice charts for each of the five great lakes (Erie, Huron, Ontario, Michigan and Superior) and threee charts for Lake St. Clair.

A 20-winter computerized ice concentration data base was established for the Great Lakes. This report describes the computerized data set and an ice concentration climatology developed from it. Data reduction and analysis procedures, computer file structure and record format, and availability of the data are given.

Mariners Weather Log contains articles, news and information about marine weather events and phenomenon, storms at sea, weather forecasting, the NWS Voluntary Observing Ship (VOS) Program, Port Meteorological Officers (PMOs), cooperating ships officers, and their vessels. It provides meteorological information to the maritime community, and contains a comprehensive chronicle on marine weather. It recognizes ships officers for their efforts as voluntary weather observers, and allows NWS to maintain contact with and communicate with over 10,000 shipboard observers (ships officers) in the merchant marine, NOAA Corps, Coast Guard, Navy, etc.
