This is the showdown. The fate of the solar system hangs in the balance. Whoever gets the last battleship wins. The losers get blown to atoms. The Empress commands the solar system, but to win, she needs the keys. The Tomato pirates have the keys , but to win, they need Cherryh. Cherryh doesn’t have a body, but she’s still got plenty of snark. (There’s no keeping Cherryh down.) As for Windy, she’s stuck eighty years in the past, with no job prospects and no references. Can she blend into society, penetrate the Imperial government, and lay the groundwork for victory? With donuts, anything is possible.

Synopsis Forever Pariah by : Douglas Milewski
A family feud of galactic proportions threatens everyone. Windy LeGuin gets a chance to stop a galactic war before it even begins. She volunteers to deliver a critical packet, ensuring that the Royalists cannot revive the galactic throne. She fails. It’s not even close. Cherryh Pariah, her own roommate, cheerfully betrays her, shoving her into an escape pod with nothing but coffee and donuts. At least the donuts were fresh. Drifting in deep space, her air running out, Windy must find a way to rescue herself, recover that packet, and strangle Cherryh at first opportunity. From these humble beginnings, a new power will arise: the Tomato Pirates, a ragtag crew of democratic desperadoes, following Cherryh Pariah, a captain so self-serving that nobody trusts her, not even with donuts. This title collects Never Trust a Pariah, Donuts or Bust, and Grand Theft Battleship.

Synopsis Grand Theft 2000 by : Douglas Kellner
The battle for the White House following the election of November 7, 2000, was one of the major media spectacles in American history. From the uncertainty of election night to Al Gore's concession to George W. Bush's acceptance of the mantle of president-elect, Douglas Kellner demonstrates why the media was culpable in the theft of the presidency, ultimately bringing to power one of the most right wing administrations in American history. By applying critical social theory, cultural studies, and media criticism to buttress his arguments, Kellner concludes that Election 2000 reveals a crisis in contemporary American democracy. A final chapter critically dissects the first 100 days of the Bush presidency, which is emerging as one of the most reactionary in history.

Synopsis Planning Armageddon by : Nicholas A. Lambert
Before the First World War, the British Admiralty conceived a plan to win rapid victory in the event of war with Germany-economic warfare on an unprecedented scale. This secret strategy called for the state to exploit Britain's effective monopolies in banking, communications, and shipping-the essential infrastructure underpinning global trade-to create a controlled implosion of the world economic system. In this revisionist account, Nicholas Lambert shows in lively detail how naval planners persuaded the British political leadership that systematic disruption of the global economy could bring about German military paralysis. After the outbreak of hostilities, the government shied away from full implementation upon realizing the extent of likely collateral damage-political, social, economic, and diplomatic-to both Britain and neutral countries. Woodrow Wilson in particular bristled at British restrictions on trade. A new, less disruptive approach to economic coercion was hastily improvised. The result was the blockade, ostensibly intended to starve Germany. It proved largely ineffective because of the massive political influence of economic interests on national ambitions and the continued interdependencies of all countries upon the smooth functioning of the global trading system. Lambert's interpretation entirely overturns the conventional understanding of British strategy in the early part of the First World War and underscores the importance in any analysis of strategic policy of understanding Clausewitz's "political conditions of war."
