Synopsis GNSS Interference Threats and Countermeasures by : Fabio Dovis
Reliable positioning and navigation is becoming imperative in more and more applications for public services, consumer products, and safety-critical purposes. Research for finding pervasive and robust positioning methodologies is critical for a growing amount of societal areas while making sure that navigation is trustworthy and the risks and threats of especially satellite navigation are accounted for. This book provides a comprehensive survey of the effect of radio-frequency interference (RFI) on the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) as well as of the spoofing threats. Through case studies and practical implementation/applications, this resource presents engineers and scientists with a better understanding of interference and spoofing threats, ultimately helping them to design and implement robust systems.

Synopsis GNSS for Rail Transportation by : Letizia Lo Presti
This book proposes a general methodology to introduce Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) integrity, starting from a rigorous mathematical description of the problem. It highlights the major issues that designers need to resolve during the development of GNSS-based systems requiring a certain level of confidence on the position estimates. Although it follows a general approach, the final chapters focus on the application of GNSS integrity to rail transportation, as an example. By describing the main requirements in the context of train position function, one of which is the safe function of any train control system, it shows the critical issues associated with the concept of safe position integrity. In particular, one case study clarifies the key differences between the avionic domain and the railway domain related to the application of GNSS technologies, and identifies a number of railway-signaling hazards linked with the use of such technology. Furthermore, it describes various railway-signaling techniques to mitigate such hazards to prepare readers for the future evolution of train control systems, also based on the GNSS technology. This unique book offers a valuable reference guide for engineers and researchers in the fields of satellite navigation and rail transportation.

Synopsis Technologies for Smart Cities by : Yuri A. Vershinin
This book gives readers an overview about technologies that are useful for developments related to Smart Cities. Some technologies are already available, such for example, as smart meters for electricity and gas in buildings. But there are possibilities to incorporate existing devices into wider networks with other smart devices that currently operate independently. This in turn will considerably improve the reduction of the energy consumption in buildings, reduction of emission pollutions in cities and improvement of the well-being of people. The other objective of this book is to introduce readers to new technologies which are not yet implemented in areas related to the efficient functioning of cities. For example, areas related to Intelligent Transport Systems are mostly developed for the optimization of the traffic flow, reduction of accidents on roads, improvement of the safety of drivers and related to road transportation problems. The rapid advances in Blockchain technologies are also covered.
