Synopsis The Accidental Anglican by : Todd D. Hunter
Many are longing for historical connectedness and for theology that is """"not tied to the whims of contemporary culture, but to apostolic-era understandings of Christian faith and practice."""" They also yearn for rhythms and routines that build spiritual health. Still others are responding to a call to participate in worship rather than merely sitting back and looking at a stage. Liturgy offers all of this and more.

Synopsis Our Favorite Sins by : Todd D. Hunter
The Essential Guide for Beating Temptation Falling for temptation isn’t inevitable. We don’t have to lose the fight. In fact, we can win if we understand the root of the problem and what Christians have done from the beginning to beat it. Our Favorite Sins shines a much-needed light in our lives’ dark corners and reveals the time-tested methods for getting victory over sin. Are you tyrannized by your own desires? If you are breathing, your answer is probably yes. The question is: What are you going to do about it? With more than thirty years of pastoral experience, Todd D. Hunter knows that most people—himself included—struggle every day with temptation. All too often, we fail and fall, and some of us are at our wit’s end, utterly defeated. What do we do to get a grip on the sin in our life and live like God wants? There’s good news: despite all our failures and shameful “moments after,” there really is a way out, a way forward, and a way that draws us closer to the life that God desires for us. In Our Favorite Sins, Hunter cracks open the problem of temptation and points to practical, biblically based, time-tested solutions. First revealing the role played by our disordered desires, Hunter shows how different temptations trip us up and how we can resist and overcome them, even if we’ve fallen prey to them for decades. Victory starts with reordering our desires, and the church has given us the tools for the job. Hunter shows us how to use them and start beating the temptations that so often beat us. Informed by exclusive research from the Barna Group, Our Favorite Sins offers a view that works for any believer wherever they are and no matter how big the battle they’re fighting.

Synopsis Contagious Generosity by : Chris Willard
The general practices related to church funding aren’t producing the same results they have in the past. There is a general acceptance that something has changed but little talk or interest is coming from traditional church leader training sources such as denominational entities and seminaries. Pastors are largely left to their own devices to “figure this out.” They need a lifeline. While some churches are experiencing exponential growth, some churches - despite their best efforts - have been unsuccessful at moving beyond survival mode. Coupled with increased competition from other nonprofits and a decline in the commitment to give to the church first, churches risk losing the funding they need. A growing number of leaders are beginning to discover there is another way and are struggling to understand what makes one church generous and another not. There is a need in the market to offer a simple, working definition of “generosity” and reveal the “secrets” some church leaders seem to have simply stumbled upon which are resulting in unexplainable ministry growth and unprecedented church funding even in the midst of tough economic times. The content of this material was developed and refined by Jim Sheppard and Chris Willard through years of ministry leadership in the local church, consulting with church leaders across a broad spectrum of church settings, and through participation in and leadership of the Generous Church Leadership Community facilitated by Leadership Network. Of particular benefit will be the collection of observations and best practices gleaned during the Generous Church Leadership Community that originated within real-life church leadership situations and scenarios by highlighting specific challenges, methods, and successes.

Synopsis Many Colors by : Soong-Chan Rah
The United States is currently undergoing the most rapid demographic shift in its history. By 2050, white Americans will no longer comprise a majority of the population. Instead, they'll be the largest minority group in a country made up entirely of minorities, followed by Hispanic Americans, African Americans, and Asian Americans. Past shifts in America's demographics always reshaped the county's religious landscape. This shift will be no different. Soong-Chan Rah's book is intended to equip evangelicals for ministry and outreach in our changing nation. Borrowing from the business concept of "cultural intelligence," he explores how God's people can become more multiculturally adept. From discussions about cultural and racial histories, to reviews of case-study churches and Christian groups that are succeeding in bridging ethnic divides, Rah provides a practical and hopeful guidebook for Christians wanting to minister more effectively in diverse settings. Without guilt trips or browbeating, the book will spur individuals, churches, and parachurch ministries toward more effectively bearing witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Good News for people of every racial and cultural background. Its message is positive; its potential impact, transformative.

Synopsis Glorious Mess by : Mike Howerton
Despite God's call on our lives, most of us spend a fair amount of time running in the other direction, chasing after our own plans and desires. Like Jonah, however, we eventually discover we've made a mess of things; we're rowing against the storms God is using to pull us back on course. In Glorious Mess, Mike Howerton shows how God's relentless grace extends into all the messes we make in our lives, that God clearly reveals his love for imperfect people no matter how far we've strayed. He shows readers how to hear God's voice, how to embrace God's calling on their lives, how to get out of their messes, and how to see God working. The result is not just forgiveness and direction for life, but also encouragement and inspiration to be our best selves before God and others. Includes discussion questions for group or personal use.

Synopsis Growing the Church by : Gary Vickery
My mother made sure that all of us were in church on Sunday and that we went to all the Revivals and to vacation Bible schools every summer, and after I was married, I continued that practice with my family. In the '50s–'60s and part of the '70s, all churches were always full with people, sometimes having to stand up in the back. But then near the end of the '70s, I noticed a decline in church attendance and fewer people were being baptized, and this has continued to be a trend today. I noticed this, and I'm sure others have also, and yet nothing was done. I decided to start writing down my ideas about this several years ago, and I kept them in a notebook. After I retired, I had more time, so I decided to put together a plan to not only stop this but also to turn it around; and long before I wrote this book, I put this plan into action. The first church had between fifty and sixty people when this started, and in just about three years, this church had grown to almost three hundred members. So I tried it again with another church in another state, and basically the same thing happened. So being retired, I decided to put this plan together in a book that has taken me almost ten years to implement and write. It does work; however, you just can't wish it to happen. It takes work and work from everyone, but if we are to follow Christ's commandments, it should be a work that is enjoyable and a blessing both for you and to the souls you win, and the blessings will continue as you watch your church grow. May God bless you in your endeavor. Don't give up.
