Synopsis How to Avoid a Climate Disaster by : Bill Gates
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • In this urgent, authoritative book, Bill Gates sets out a wide-ranging, practical—and accessible—plan for how the world can get to zero greenhouse gas emissions in time to avoid a climate catastrophe. Bill Gates has spent a decade investigating the causes and effects of climate change. With the help of experts in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, political science, and finance, he has focused on what must be done in order to stop the planet's slide to certain environmental disaster. In this book, he not only explains why we need to work toward net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases, but also details what we need to do to achieve this profoundly important goal. He gives us a clear-eyed description of the challenges we face. Drawing on his understanding of innovation and what it takes to get new ideas into the market, he describes the areas in which technology is already helping to reduce emissions, where and how the current technology can be made to function more effectively, where breakthrough technologies are needed, and who is working on these essential innovations. Finally, he lays out a concrete, practical plan for achieving the goal of zero emissions—suggesting not only policies that governments should adopt, but what we as individuals can do to keep our government, our employers, and ourselves accountable in this crucial enterprise. As Bill Gates makes clear, achieving zero emissions will not be simple or easy to do, but if we follow the plan he sets out here, it is a goal firmly within our reach.

Synopsis Environmental Issues and Sustainable Futures by : Michael Marien
This guide seeks to sort the flood of information written about environmental issues and sustainable societies in recent years and order it in some way. A total of 450 document abstracts are presented here, most of which are on books and think tank reports. These items first appeared in "Future Survey" (journal) and were published between 1991 and 1995. Many of these items focus on American issues; however, in most instances, both the problems and the proposed remedies may be of great relevance to other countries. The abstracts are grouped into three broad categories: (1) "Environmental Issues," in which the primary focus is on a particular problem or set of problems; (2) "Toward Sustainability," where the primary focus is on a sustainable society or some key aspect of it; and (3) "Politics and Planning," in which the focus is on political context, environmental critics, environmentalist groups, and actions to be taken at the global, national, regional, and local levels. A total of 170 periodicals related to the environment are also identified including two dozen general-interest publications, four dozen publications with an environmental focus, and 100 specialized environmental publications such as those devoted to soil conservation, waste disposal, environmental education or environmental politics. A publisher/title index and a subject index are also included. (PVD)

Synopsis Ecological Design and Planning by : George F. Thompson
Addressing the central controversy of ecological landscape and design planning the authors conclude that the polarity of care for the environment and pure aesthetic consideration has to be harmonised, and that both are justifiably pertinent.

Synopsis Saving Earth by : Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich
A timely and inspiring nonfiction guide for middle grade readers about the history of our fight against climate change, and how young people today are rising to action. Inspired by Nathaniel Rich’s Losing Earth: A Recent History, the acclaimed book that grew out of an August 2018 issue of the New York Times Magazine solely dedicated to it, Saving Earth tells the human story of the climate change conversation from the recent past into the present day. It wrestles with the long shadow of our failures, what might be ahead for today’s generation, and crucial questions of how we understand the world we live in—and how we can work together to change the outlook for the better. Written by acclaimed author Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich and enlivened with illustrations from Tim Foley, and filled with the voices of climate activists from the past and present, this book is both a call to action and a riveting dramatic history. A Junior Library Guild Selection
