Synopsis Polypores of Kerala by : K. M. Leelavathy
This book is the result of a preliminary study of the polypore flora of Kerala mainly for a period of five years from 1983-1987. Must effort in the form of field work and laboratory work have gone into it along with exhaustive coverage of literature. Though this is primarily a study of the polypore flora of Kerala State, a good number of species recorded from here are new reports for India. Therefore, besides being a regional flora, the present work adds considerably to our knowledge of the polypores of India. As reports of polyporaceous fungi from Kerala up to this time was only six species, this presentation may serve as a base on which future workers of Kerala on this interesting group of fungi can build up. The present work contains descriptions and illustrations of 80 species of polypores belonging to 32 genera of three families viz, Ganodermataceae, Hymenochaetaceae and Polyporaceae. The book also provides a brief summary of the history and classification of the three families and a review of literature on the subject including contributions of Indian workers. Keys are provided for families, genera and species. Full synonymy and author citation are quoted for each species. Detailed descriptions, drawings and collection data are also provided. With a few exceptions descriptions are based on fresh collections made by the authors from Kerala. Part of all collections are deposited in the Herbarium of the Forest Research Institute, Dehra Dun (Herb FRI) and at the Herbarium Cryptogamme Indae Orientalis (Herb HCIO) of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. Contents Chapter 1: Introduction; Materials and methods, Physiography and vegetation of the region, Review of literature, Technical terms; Chapter 2: Systematic Account; Key to families, Introduction to families, Ganodermataceae, Hymenochaetaceae, Polyporaceae.

Synopsis Polypores and Similar Fungi of Eastern and Central North America by : Alan E. Bessette
This the first color-illustrated reference to polypores and similar fungi specific to the eastern and central regions of the United States and Canada. Welcoming and comprehensive, it accurately presents the currently available information about polypores, emphasizes identification based primarily on macroscopic field characters, and includes observational data drawn from the authors’ extensive experience. It includes new species and genera; addresses changing nomenclature; and provides details about polypores’ biology, morphology, composition, role as parasites, interactions with various arthropods, and purported medicinal applications. The book also highlights how changes in geology, soil structure, and plant species due to factors such as continental drift and climate change have affected the evolution of polypores. Featuring more than 240 species of polypores, extensive and easy-to-use dichotomous keys, and more than 300 color illustrations and multiple maps and line drawings, Polypores and Similar Fungi of Eastern and Central North America is a must-have for amateur and professional mycologists, forest service personnel, mycophagists, and anyone interested in learning more about this remarkable group of fungi.

Synopsis Mushrooms of Gujarat by : Madhvi Joshi
This edited book cover over 200 mushrooms with detailed profiles of all the species. Each profile includes information on macro-morphology, molecular characterization, application and a color photograph of the same. Gujarat mushrooms gives a complete idea of mushrooms found in Gujarat, there morphological identification, molecular barcoding and documented applications. Data presented on mushrooms spans collections of three consecutive years. The collected mushrooms were identified morphologically as well as at the molecular level using ITS as a marker. 942 specimens covering 316 species were submitted to BOLD. Of these the macrofungal diversity covered around 200 species. Some of the collected mushrooms were not only edible but were found to have nutraceutical as well as industrial value. Although the mushrooms collected are from Gujarat region only they are reported from different areas around the globe. Hence the proposed book will be useful not only regionally but across countries as well. Mushrooom is a macro fungus with a distinct fruiting body. Wild mushrooms have a significant biological and economic impact. The texture and pleasant flavor of certain mushrooms make them a delicacy for mankind. Mushrooms have a very high medicinal value as well with several reports of anticancer properties of mushroom extracts. This book is a useful read for researchers and academicians interested in mushrooms.

Synopsis Progress in Mycology by : Tulasi Satyanarayana
Indian mycologists have extensively studied various groups of fungi such as soil fungi, aquatic fungi, marine fungi, endophytic fungi, fungi associated with man and animals. Though several books on various aspects of fungi are published, this is the first account of the history and developments in mycology in India. It discusses at length various stages of development of mycology including both classical and biotechnological aspects. It begins with a historical account of Indian mycology, followed by a description of research on fossil fungi. Further chapters cover the latest updates on different taxonomic groups of fungi. A dedicated section describes the roles and applications of fungal endophytes. The book also includes research in other important areas such as mushrooms and wood rotting fungi. Different chapters are written by leading mycologists. This book is useful to students, teachers and researchers in botany, microbiology, biotechnology and life sciences, agriculture and industries using fungi to produce various valuable products.

Synopsis Resupinate Aphyllophorales of India by : M.H. Hakimi
The present book has great Mycological significance and will update the knowledge of Resupinate Aphyllophorales of Maharashtra, which presently lacks in the scenario of Indian Mycology. This book will be of immense help for further studies and investiga-tions. Taking into consideration the taxonomic study of Wood Rotting Fungi, this kind of approach is studied for the first time for understanding thoroughly the compilation of the Resupinate Aphyllophorales from a particular region. This book will facilitate further understanding of important pathogens from the vegetation of Maharashtra. The major work deals with the species studied from the family Corticiaceae with non-poroid hymenium; Polyporaceae and Hymenochaetaceae with poroid hymenium. Main aim is to provide an entry point for the students in to the World of Aphyllophorales. The book is supplemented with an index of genera, index of hosts/ substrata along with fungi recorded thereon and the list of references. Through this book readers are going to get a comprehensive guide of Resupinate Aphyllophorales. The present book would prove useful to Mycologist, Plant pathologists, Plant Biotechnologists and also to research students and teachers alike in the disciplines of Mycology and Plant Pathology.
