One of the earliest Richelieu ancestors was Marin Richard dit Lavalle (1641-1715) who was born in Normandy, France and immigrated to Quebec in Canada. He married Marie Madeleine Grangeon and they eventually settled in Portneuf, Quebec. They were the parents of Jacues Richard dit LaRichardiere (1676-1741).
