Synopsis Further Adventures of Timothy in Colonial New South Wales by : L. Martin
Timothy has enjoyed his school years in the first town in the new colony of New South Wales. Since he came from England he has watched the town of Sydney grow and has seen how the convicts have built many substantial buildings. In the first story of this book Tim considers a number of activities, in and around Sydney, that the convicts have been involved in, that have made a substantial difference in this settlement. During Tim's time in New South Wales he has witnessed the crossing of the rugged Blue Mountains by Europeans and a road being built that has made a significant difference in opening up land to the West of these mountains. Tim is keen to do his own 'exploring' in these mountains and in the second story he sets out on his own trip across this rugged terrain. Illustrations from early European days in Australia provide the reader with added insight into these times.

Synopsis How They Fought by : Ray Kerkhove
The history of Australia’s Frontier Wars is becoming a hot topic for debate and research. It is now part of our national educational syllabus. However, there are very few books available which explain, in detail, the modes of warfare First Australians applied during the Frontier Wars. How They Fought is written as an introductory guidebook. It is broken into chapters covering organisation, strategies, weaponry, and defences. The book considers both traditional practices and technological and tactical adaptations. To make this complex topic more accessible, How They Fought includes numerous tables, figures and diagrams that illustrate and summarize the contents.

Synopsis Colonial and Postcolonial Literature by : Elleke Boehmer
Colonial and Postcolonial Literature is the leading critical overview of and historical introduction to colonial and postcolonial literary studies. Highly praised from the time of its first publication for its lucidity, breadth, and insight, the book has itself played a crucial part in founding and shaping this rapidly expanding field. The author, an internationally renowned postcolonial critic, provides a broad contextualizing narrative about the evolution of colonial and postcolonial writing in English. Illuminating close readings of texts by a wide variety of writers - from Kipling and Conrad through to Kincaid, from Ngugi to Noonuccal and Naipaul - explicate key theoretical terms such as 'subaltern', 'colonial resistance', 'writing back', and 'hybridity'. This revised edition includes new critiques of postcolonial women's writing, an expanded and fully annotated bibliography, and a new chapter and conclusion on postcolonialism exploring keynote debates in the field relating to sexuality, transnationalism, and local resistance.
